    if you live in the northeast, i recommend the Grateful Dreadwww.thegratefuldread.com all yoour favorite tunes with a touch of reggae. they're from martha's vineyard and they have a new live album out which sounds great.

    Local Band: Forgotten Space (in North Texas)
    My first time on the Board...My wife and I went out for drinks last Friday night at a local bar in Grapevine Texas called Tolberts. Tolberts features local bands on Friday's and Saturday's. On Friday, a Dead tribute band called Forgotten Space played at Tolberts. The band was absolutely great! It was our first time to see this band and we were impressed. The lead guitar player, Kenny Withrow, replicated the Jerry Garcia sound down to the riff and note. Kenny Withrow is one of the founding members of Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. All-in-all, the band played the Dead music very well!

    Steve Winwood and Carlos Santana
    They're touring together this summer. Saw them Sunday night and both were excellent! Steve has still got it and Carlos, well he's Carlos, enough said! One highlight was when Steve came on stage during Carlos' set and they did Marvin Gaye's "Right On". If they're coming your way I highly recommend them!

    The first night was better but only because it was in Denver where the crowd was a lot more respectful. The Boulder show was filled with college kids who didn't know how to shut the F up and listen. I mean these guys play acoustic and they aren't even plugged into amps so excessive talking and laughing and partying kind of ruins the show you know? Like David said "Lost today is the art of listening". Great advice. "Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place. I want a double dose in any case" ... "You got to hear my supplication. Got to hear me now. A little bolt of inspiration"

    If David Grisman's Bluegrass Experience rolls through your neck of the woods this summer I HIGHLY recommend checking them out. We spent a lazy summer friday night in Denver last night enjoying them. Not only did we get some extraordinary guitar, banjo, mandolin and fiddle pickin', we got a nice lesson in the history of bluegrass from the man himself ... to top it off, out of nowhere .. could it be? YES! a bluegrassy Dark Hollow. Man oh man what a night!! The best part is I get to see them again tonight in Boulder. "Lazy lightning you say you never strike the same place.     yeah, I've been meaning to check that out
    I really loved the last one. Trashcan Tomcat, what's not to like! Completely different from Jerry, but Lauderdale and Hunter have really good chemistry.

They are obviously solid, very tight musicians. However, I found their recorded music to be almost muzac for Deadheads...excellent background music played by exceptional musicians. Luckily, I had opportunity to catch a live show, and for $20, I gave it a shot. All I can say is "Wow"...extreme energy live...very tight, almost disciplined live, but also highly creative and improvisational. They played about 2 1/2 hours non-stop with VERY impressive jams. I highly recommend their live shows.

Dave McMurray, saxophonist late of Was Not Was, has a new album of Dead covers, Grateful Deadication, which sorta came into being when he saw Weir do Days Between at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass a few years back. It's very good.

Any fans digging Billy's awesome live gigs. He's covered lots of Dead tunes "Wharf Rat" , "To lay Me Down", "Me & My Uncle", All done really well. Of course he's played in Billy and the Kids.

Caught these guys a month ago in Va. Maybe next week in the bay area.
Great live show. Much improvisation.
Glorious and joyful originals. Great covers. Fun Jams coming from some very young pups.
Hopefully they're built to last.

I may be spoiled, but Indianapolis has an amazing band called Starcat that performs music by the Jerry Garcia Band with a lineup that resembles Jerry's classic 90's outfit.
