A show I'd Like to get
I watched Garcia/Khan/Vitt (Who else?) at the Great American Music Hall. I think it was in 1974. I'd like that moment in time to listen to.

    Hunter & Comfort and Dinosaurs
I'm about to order the JGB at the Warner CDs (I was there) and was hoping the Robert Hunter & Comfort sets that opened those shows would be included, but alas... (I have it on tape, but still...) I was a big fan of that era of Hunter's. I saw Comfort maybe a half-dozen times (didn't they have a single? a cover of "Wild Night", maybe?) and was disappointed when Hunter stopped performing with a band. The Dinosaurs opened for the Dead on a couple (at least) occasions '82-ish at the then-Oakland Auditorium, so the tapes are there, if anyone wants to transcribe them.

    Stuff we can't already get
I'd like to see an emphasis on shows that don't already circulate in high quality. For starters, let's hear the tremendously underrated Hartford show from 8/2/76.

    petition for a 1984 Release
http://www.petitiononline.com/dogstarz/petition.html I made an online petition to Rhino Records in hopes that they will release a show from 1984. Feel free to copy and paste this in other forums or blogs. Initial studies have concluded that repeated exposure to Grateful Dead music may be habit forming, and can result in a permanent change to the psyche of the listener. While no one has successfully reversed this condition, it can sometimes be controlled to

Anything from 1984 would be great to see as a release. I have recently made a chart of live releases and have noticed that 1984 has been totally ignored. All that circulates is //Cumberland Dark Star > Stephen > Mason's// The sound (at least from the vernon source) is great, A if not A+. The Dark Star may be THE Dark Star. The Stephen and the bit of Mason's we have are great, too. If this board is in the vault, the sound quality is good and the rest of the show even approaches the level of what circulates, an official release is not only warranted, but necessary.

I’m thinking based on the clue offered for Dave’s 50, specifically the reference to “show (shows…?)” and the timing being right,… leads me to believe the show is the Watkins Glen summer jam and the bonus disc is the sound check. I did some quick math at archive.org and it looks like the show would fit on three discs with about 15 min to spare, and that the sound check would almost fit on one, with the need for last song on the other discs.

As is well known, there are Owsley tapes for both days and even though widely available (in so so quality) already, this show deserves the official release, plangent process and all. Here’s hoping I’m right on this guess.
