This is the only day where I'd been to 2 Grateful Dead shows: 1972 was my first show, a 3 set gem in Boulder with free pot, a rain storm, and a Rockin' Pneumonia. All this for a $3 ticket! 13 years later at Starlight Theater in Kansas City's Swope Park, it was hot and humid. The 2nd set opened with Crytical Envelopement and encored w Baby Blue. The Oade brothers made a wonderful audience recording that may be obtained from www.archive.org. Do check it out! Today on XM Sirius, David Lemieux features a piece of history with some great tunes from the Elizabethtown, NJ 9/3/77 show, one I wish I had attended. Most of it is on Dick's Pick #15.

had a lot to do with all of us. With "I Want to Hold Your Hand", I think they put flatout happy into the equation. I never did see the Beatles. I think Gypsy Cowgirl was at Candlestick. You guys make me smile.

that the Beatles played their last show, at Candlestick Park. You might not think this has to do with the Dead so much, but it figures prominently in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. I wasn't there. But I was at Dodger Stadium the night before.

back on 8/3/82 in beautiful Swope Park. The entire show was as hot as the evening temp. The 1st set just smoked. Check the live music archive for a listen, especially the Shakedown leading into the 2nd set. I had just received my R.I.F. (lay-off) notice the week before, during the first Reagan recession....

My International Travel All pulled into Red Rocks, full of Louisiana Deadheads, to witness the first visit of the band to Morrison, CO. Jack Straw was the opener of the 1st set, while Cold Rain & Snow led off the 2nd! Maybe someday David Lemieux will slip some of this 2-day run into the weekly Tapers Section!!

It was 35 years ago today that Pete and I rode the red VW bus into Louisville from Oxford. I don't think the show was sold out, but then again we were right up front, sometimes leaning on the stage in front of beardless Jerry, enjoying one of the best shows in Grateful Dead history. Thanks to the band for a real good time.

Listening to this great 1971 show, containing a Dark Star in the 1st set! Celebrating our first snow of the season in Kansas in anticipation of some good college football games today: Go Jayhawks, Go Wildcats, and further west, Go Buffs!!! Will Stanford upset USC ? Can the Gamecocks contain the Gators??

nothing to do w/ today-but this Friday-but I was answering a previous post on the page before. Somehow we got off track....ha-guess that happens alot. Happy Trails was talking about Sante Fe in 83 & I mentioned Halloween....sorry...but we're close now....grandson is coming.
