    That Alpine run is forever
That Alpine run is forever seared into my circuits. Lordy what fun we had! Absolutely out of control scene for three days... once you made it into the gates there wasn't a cop to be seen (that all changed the next year). Big crowd from all over the country primed and ready, and boy-howdy we got some juice! The tapes just don't do it justice-- Alpine had some serious stuff happening and there are times I can still feel the vibrations of the lawn, tangible waves of energy washing back and forth over the grass as you felt that cicada buzz, that deep-rooted mushroom shiver, all that chlorophyl pumping extra O2 into the cortex... Oh it was good to be there, standing on that hill with the crowd moving under you just like the crest of a wave and you knew that things would be different better perfect soon, back and forth, in and out, driving the band as they struck the chords within the thousands of all of us, snakes of green light hissing under your feet and you fell up and into the waiting arms of that beast made manifest and up up up again until suddenly it was still. That stillness when the first click of the floodlights froze that portrait of us looking at each other as if to ask: did that just happen? And out we went. Into the gravel and campfires, the coolers and tents, the lies and sales, the laughing, the dancing, the wondering. Miles and miles of family reunion and all that entailed: the genuineness, the foolishness, the deep unreal, the t-shirts and burritos. What bliss it was to walk among you then! T'was ever thus. "I tremble for my nation when I reflect that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever." Thomas Jefferson

The original files for this series were created several years ago by a guy on the Well - www.well.com if that means nothing to you! A woman over there, Aud, picked it up when Dave left the Well, and I'm cribbing these entries from Aud's entries on the Well. The 'good this, bad that' parts are from Dave and a little from Aud, and there is always discussion about it on the Well. I think it'd be cool to have some of that discussion here, too. So have at, 143or245!!

The latest issue of Physical Review Letters presents research of Prof. Gondola...(an Italian name, I am writing from memory which is obviously not good))/ Prof. Spolyar and someone else supporting the premise that after the big bang, there were no bright stars, øonly masses of dark matter, which are designated in the article as "Dark Stars in honor of the 1967 Grateful Dead song. "...And I got no chance of losing, this time" RIP Brent Mydland, about to perform with the band in Chicago on his last 3 show run.... This particular venue was very wide and right off the highway. The 2nd set from 7/21 was particularly good with a great Mr Fantasy as part of a multi-song sequence starting with Scarlet Begonias, in and out of Playin, a Crazy Fingers and ending with Saturday Night: very dynamic!! After 7/23, Vince Welnick debuted in Richfield, OH, on 9/7. Jerry did an intro for Vince before going into Bird Song.... >>> I'll salute Vince with an RIP, too! <<<

that the Grateful Dead played at Sante Fe Downs in Sante Fe, New Mexico. What a great couple of shows. I drove out from Florida to catch them. Then went on to see them in Grass Valley,Ca. and San Rafael on Holloween. New Mexico was great. Got to see my sister in Las Cruces and had a sweet time at the shows. Saw my first ever Cold Rain & Snow and still think it's the best I ever heard.

Halloween '83-believe it or not-I even wore my pink handled 38 pistol (no bullets-just lipstick "bullets") with my tooled leather gun holster (left to me by my ex) Yes, "the Lone Rangette" rode again that Halloween.......... it still kind of freaked a couple of friends of mine....they laughed @ my bullets........still have the pink handled 38 for my granddaughter when she's old enough for can practice...............Yee-Haw.........be nice to hear it again-I'll see if I can get copies!...................GC

I don't think I dressed up much, wasn't there a huge pumkin' on the stage with a "Steal Your Face" carved into it? St. Stepen was great. Yee-Haw. -ht
