I was 14. I remember it being a typical hot steamy Jersey day, and I was pretty much in awe the whole time. Was with 3 other friends who were also having their first GD experience. I was as much in awe of being with that many other freaks as I was with the music ;) Had been listening to the GD since '70, wasn't allowed to go to see them at Temple Stadium that year (horrors! North Philly! so said my parents); and '72 was my first chance. Roosevelt was HUGE for me, literally. I looked for that tape for years and one of the guys on the Well finally came through for me...

Aud - What an incredible way to begin the long strange trip! Could you elaborate on your experience - how does the show rate upon revisiting? Was it steamy? etc. It was so cool to hear the tapers section SBD excerpt from 7/16/72 and it totally primed me for the summer and fall of '72! So fine! Adios From day to day, just lettin' it ride, You get so far away from how it feels inside, You can't let go, 'cause you're afraid to fall, But the day may come when you can't feel at all."

On this date in deadhead history - my MIL's dog chewed through my laptop cord and my son used up the remaining battery, so my files are captive until the new power supply arrives from Dell on Tuesday. Unless there's somebody out here in Orange County, where I'm visiting, who I can borrow one from. So far I have found that Toshiba uses a different connector than Dell :-) See y'all on Tuesday sometime...

Spent the day in Utah with the band up in the hills, where at least one person was observed entering the show under the canopy of a parachute, with purple smoke trailing behind him; some folks had set up a tarp in the middle of the crowd, upon which target the parachutist then made his graceful landing. As he passed over my head, I could see that he was dancing and had a ticket in his hand. Just a day like any other day, back when we had a Grateful Dead.

Tonight in 1966, the first Grateful Dead concert was recorded live at the Fillmore in San Francisco.
