    Sweetheart of the Rodeo (Untitled) I think that it makes me something of a Byrds heretic to proclaim these two as my favorite Byrds albums...at least it would have circa 1971. Both CDs contain bonus tracks that enhance, rather than detract from, the original albums (hearing the original Gram Parsons vocals on several of the "Sweetheart" songs is worth the price of the CD itself. Regardless of whatever combination of legal problems and McGuinn insecurity kept them off the official release, I find it striking just how close McGuinn and Hillman in their own interpretations stuck to feel of Parsons' original takes). I just saw Roger McGuinn a couple of weekends ago and seem to be on a bit of Byrds jag right now. There are worse places to be...

    A Miles Davis Recommendation
    Althought I rarely buy compilations I dicovered that a Miles Davis compilation CD called 'Blue Moods: Music For You' has a rare live version of the song 'Fran-Dance', recorded somewhere in France in the 1950's, specific location/date unknown, and it it's my all-time favorite version of this beautiful song. Check it out :-)Pete

LIVE AT THE CAROUSEL BALLROOM 1968, RECORDED & PRODUCED BY OWSLEY STANLEY ("BEAR") Turn it up LOUD, it's a thrill ride. It is also a rather idiosyncratic mix from Bear with everthing from the PA (drums and voices) on the left hand channel and everything else (guitars) on the right. He explains why in the notes and even tells you how to arrange the speakers to get the best effect! Talking to us from the beyond.

    ...Matisyahu's "Selections from No Place to Be." Just finished listening to Chaise Lounge's sophomore album "Second Hand Smoke," and I'll be listening to Void's "Sessions 1981-83" next. I'm one of those O.C.D. types who likes to rate the music on his/her iPod, and I had to re-boot my laptop's harddrive shortly before Christmas last year, so I've been listening to my entire album collection from "Absolution" to "93-03" in alphabetical order. And in case you're wondering, yes, it takes a LONG TIME to get through over 7,000 songs (especially when I keep adding new stuff and deleting stuff I don't really want anymore)....

Storybook A covers album. Unfortunately contains the Suzanne Vega hit "Luka." Unfortunate not because I dislike the song, but because even hearing the name tends to start my interior jukebox with the tune and it could take days to get it out of my head. Happening right now, by the way.

The Carpenter I would have liked a little less cello and a little more banjo (no need to "pretty up" these songs IMO). Still an enjoyable listen, however.

Fantasy The Complete Recordings is Remastered and Resquenced to the original recording of July 1973. If you already own anyof the Keystone releases you MUST have this one. Absolutly unbeleivable sound. This was recorded 39 years ago....Get a copy for yourself, you will be very happy with it...!!!!

the second set of 10/06/77, Activity Center- ASU, Tempe - all cylinders, companeros! As primers I listened to Miles/Rollins "Dig" from 10/06/51 & Rollins plays Bird from '56, followed by two takes of "I Love You Sweetheart of All My Dreams" courtesy Thelonious from 10/06/64. Go Cards.

Live in New York City (6/6/11) I saw Simon about 6 months later on this tour -- setlist was the same as the NYC concert, though the full show from this tour includes a couple of additional covers, notably a show-highlight of a "for George" rendition of "Here Comes the Sun," unfortunately missing from this release. Still pretty damn good after all these years.

Palo Alto, Stanford U. 10/10/82 Had to listen on its 30th! (Miller Aud) A Sunday. I can imagine it was awesome to be there - all those exotic trees with the dappled light, balmy temp, and Jerry lettin' 'em rip! Too much! Agreed, best show of '82.

sounds perfect in some way every time I listen to it 'bout now, in the Fall when time is warping and tightening - awhoa! 10-12-68 give it a try, listen to it again or not. Unrelenting, ferocious and "spot-on, eh?". I was really hoping that the next Dave's was going to be this or hereabouts, but what is within earshot is most definitely worthy. Go there GOGD!!!
