KPFA Grateful Dead Marathon Fundraiser

Premiums

Saturday February 9th, 2008

From 9AM PST to 1AM PST

The annual KPFA Grateful Dead marathon, produced and hosted by David Gans, is a fund-raiser for America's first listener-sponsored radio station and a station whose history has been entwined with the Dead's since before the band was born. KPFA has broadcast many GD shows from the Greek, Oakland Coliseum, NYE and others, and of course, is the home of the weekly program Dead to the World.

Dead.Net Will donate 10% of each Dick’s Picks Purchase

During the marathon, buy any of the Dick’s Picks series and dead.net will donate 10% of every sale to KPFA. Fill those holes in your collection and support KPFA at the same time.

Great stuff...I have listened to all 4 hours.

Don't stop the music. I placed my order, now it is your turn.
If you own all the Dick's Picks, get a gift for a fellow HEAD
or turn someone new onto the vibe.

Filling in the Holes

Filling in the holes of my collection and helping out, this is great. Just ordered Dicks Picks 26 & 27. One early, one late. Im looking forward to #27 that will be the most recent dead I own. I also havent been listening to much from the 60's lately so #26 will be a welcome addition. I am also enjoying the stream. "Feel like a stranger" currently playing. I love this song I've recently been listening to alot from the 80's and 90's

As always, thanks David

As always it's you David that keeps this going. I truly think that if it wasn't for you there would be no one out there who would care about playing the Dead! It's with my utmost sincerity that I thank you for doing what you do. You are the best!
Peace & Love...

Thanks, Addie, but...

There are lots of Grateful Dead radio shows out there in the world, and more power to 'em! I am fortunate to have been part of the creation of a tradition at KPFA, but the connection between the Dead and KPFA goes back to 1965, when Phil was board-opping here and brought Jerry up to appear on Gert Chiarito's "Midnight Special" show.

My deepest thanks to all who participated - by supporting KPFA, by buying Dick's Picks CDs (10% of the proceeds from yesterday's sales go to KPFA), hanging out in the chat rooms, or just enjoying the music wherever you were.

Here are the playlist and program notes, with links to more information about the music you heard. And here is a (probably incomplete) list of thank-yous to the many people who assisted before and during the broadcast.

And here is a link to an audio file of Bob Weir's phone call to the marathon last night.
