This was the only show where I ever had an official backstage pass, so imagine how disappointed I was that rain forced it indoors to McNichols instead of Red Rocks! I still have the laminate tucked away with my ticket stub collection.
The weather that day/night wasn't as bad as the "Wet Rocks" shows in 1985 (?) when we huddled under tarps and pochos as the boys broke out every song with a rain reference (I'd shine my light through the cool Colorado rain . . . ")
This is one of those shows where I would love to have it released. I heard it the first time on Sirius while camping in a remote location in Vermont. I thought this show had tons of energy and have been trying to track down a good copy. I have a good first set, but a crappy second set. Would love to see 8/13/79 as a Dave's Pick!
Another Great month of good tunes, this year the u guys set it up a whole lot better than last yr, thanks for a job well done,Easy downloads. I can't wait to hear what's coming up while i'm "Balling that Jack and Drinking my Wine, Yes I will"
Scroll up and look to your right, you will see "Past Days". You will find your treasure there!
Thank you Dead.net for providing these wonderful gems. With the Jam of the Week and daily downloads, it gives us the strength to carry on!
For anyone looking for the previous days' downloads, there are links for each day at the top of this page to the right of the larger 30 Days of Dead logo.
How can I get the first three days of tracks, which I missed?
Sugar Magnolia on valium: desperately poor and sad.
Love these wacky gifts -- hoping they are intentionally off beat...
This is a blast, seeing what unreleased version pops up (for free) every day.
I would pay for a daily subscription!
it is a 65 dollar value
This Sugar is even safe for those on a diet!!!!
definitely a garage cleanout. but that is fun too, what will be next? until you get the 72 europe set. anyone know if you get more than one entry if you correctly guess more than one show for the grand prize? will i get 30 entries for 30 correct answers (not!) or just one for the whole shebang? want to know how hard to correctly guess to improve my odds. im liking my odds for this days song, i really need to cut the cheese- comeon you know someone was gonna say it.
would like to see some 1989 So Cal shows...
LA at Forum 2-12-89 or 12-10-89 are great with guest.
but those whole runs are great.
also irvine April of 1989
cheers and thanks for the free tunes.
I believe they are posting the new day's song at roughly midnight pacific time. I've downloaded three of the four tracks so far at sometime between 12:00AM and 1:00AM and the other night I went to sleep at a reasonable hour :-)
encore from that show - brent's pinball machine keys and reluctant vocals are a dead giveaway
I chose 12/27. The band & crowd energy seemed to have that NYE run sound.
But what other band would give you the tool to help cut vegetables and fruits?
it's be a nice rolling tray
What's with the giveaways? A cutting board? Kind of random. Seems like someone is going through their garage and getting this stuff. Wasn't there like an XXL shirt the other day? Again, random...Talk about low budget.
Yeah, at least they could be giving a free house or something. Cheap bastards...
a copy of that days show, whole thing.
kind of irksome how they've gotten so tight with the music, but hey this is america.
Just scroll up on this same page to the top and on the right side it says 'Past Days'. Click on the day you want and scroll down. It tells you the correct answer for that day and below that provides a link to download.
I think this Sugar Mag is from the 12/16/86 Christmas show at Oakland Coliseum. This contest is hard unless you've paid dues with Deadbase.
wow. took me a while to get this one. funny but my first instinct was correct. I sent myself on a decade long search though.... however I am now intimately acquainted with Sugar Magnolia.
The Phil Bombs were the giveaway... and believe it or not the tone of Bob's guitar. Very unique sound that is really only from this year.
Thanks David and the rest of the guys who handle this stuff.
I can't get today's Sugar Magnolia to download. Anyone else having a problem? I downloaded the first three on my PC with no problem by right-clicking on the link and saving the link as an mp3. Thanks for any help/info.
Does anybody know if they have already determined a winner for the previous days?
i guess if you won they would tell you in an email. But it does say they will post the previous days winners. i havent got any emails saying i won so cross me off the list. really hoping for the cheese board.
Anyone have any insight into how I might acquire the songs I've missed. I didn't catch yesterday's Shakedown in time? Thanks, friends!
Can be found by clicking on the helpful links at the top of the page under the heading "past days".
I think its as early as 6am. Pretty sure thats what time it was when I first discovered it the other day
From the comment times I can't figure out what time the songs are being released. Anyone know? what time zone?
.. Has got to be one of the finest Sugar Mags I've ever heard. What a Monster!!
Looking forward to hearing about this show for sure. If the Mags was THAT GOOD, I can only imagine what the whole show sounded like.
Now I'm ready for the day!!
April 19, 1986 Berkeley Community Theatre
McNichols Sports Arena on 1979-08-13
Sugar Magnolia - SMILE SMILE SMILE :))
Doesn't sound like '86 to me. Brent sounds pretty "plinky" and his high harmonies are clean and not raspy - I'm guessing '80.
The Phil bombs would be key to figuring out which version this is...
If only Scooby an friends had Phil bombs....
Alright homies, hope the day is treating everyone well! I broke the da vinci code and figured out how to download with a mac.
1)put in email or Facebook where it is required
2) get to the point where it says download's todays free song.
3) press control FIRST
4)then open with iTunes and save
There it is. I have used this method successfully. Hope it works for everyone! Enjoy the day!!
I had similar problems with iMac running 10.7. Safari refused to "Save As" the "Page Source," which is an mp3 file.
Firefox did it fine, however. Same procedure: File>SaveAs>Choose "Page Source" from pulldown menu, navigate to where you want to store the file and save it.
Nevertheless, your method seems more elegant - if you want iTunes to manage the file (and most of us do).
Hey, I have finally got my download going. I use a mac with a firefox browser. In that browser I had an "add-on" that uses the control click feature. I disabled it, restarted firefox, re-entered my email address (for like the 8th time now) to get the download link and YES! Success.
This is how it worked for me:
hover over link > press and hold ctrl on keyboard > regular click (left) > choose "save link as" > save file box comes up > choose a location to save file "magsug3.mp3" > save
...makes me nervous about the subscription thing, purchasing before we know what we're going to get. One tune from a good year, 1967, and three tunes from years I do not care for (being polite here), 1976, 1986 and 1992 (assuming the non-existent Jerry on the Sugar Magnolia is from 1986). Definitely seems like complaining, but this is all unreleased (and free) and I am still enjoying very much the opportunity to hear stuff I would not otherwise hear (and at good prices!).
Hey there Craig, I remember you from the Dick's Picks Forum, 2002-04-ish, back in the tail end of the trading days (I was the imaginatively named "ChrisL." I recall some wide ranging discussions, not just about the Dead. I seem to recall you got me on to 11-15-71, since released in the RT series, and whoah was I grateful for that. Good to see you again.
I actually did go in for the subscription, even though I have a lush copy of Mosque '77. In part, my logic is: since they are starting this off, they will want people to see it as a desirable thing to purchase subscriptions, they'll want non subscribers to say, "oh man, wish I had subscribed!" So, goes my logic, I expect to see something rare (maybe on the bonus disc?), and some great stuff (maybe '67, '84, late Fall '72... Alaska '80...). But hey, maybe they are counting on the majority of people hoping to see a slew of 92-95 releases...
And Dave - thanks for the free November nugs, really enjoying them all.
dead.net offers free downloads and you are nervous about the whole "subscription thing"? Perhaps I didn't know what I was getting into, but as far as I can tell, the only thing required of me was an email address, which dead.net already has. Also, the Slip>Frank from 76 is pretty sweet. PEACE! Thanks for the free music, dead.net!
The subscription that people are talking about is Dave's Picks, which is replacing the Road Trips series. Click on the icon right below the 30 Days of Dead icon and text on the homepage for more information and speculation. And just for clarification, No, by giving your email address to dead.net you did not sign up for anything except emails.

I remember a parking lot scene in '85 where a Head was facetiously barking, "Grateful Dead turkey basters!! Get 'em while they're hot!!" And now that once-ridiculous notion has pretty much come true.
