    First Show
Went to school in Providence and my room mate and I went downtown to try and score some buds outside the show and ended up scoring tickets instead. While hanging around outside just before the show I noticed a dude getting patted down by security and a pack of cigs was pulled from his pocket and security pointed to a garbage can outside the door. We retrieved the cigs and to our astonishment and joy found a couple joints of some kind skunk that we enjoyed and then entered the show. I'd loved the Dead for years, but this was the first time seeing them and what an incredible first show to have caught!!!

    fun FUN fun
We would follow these guys around for a night like this. Any time they opened the set with Playin in the band it left things wide open for exploring. When one looks at this set list its apparent the band was exploring , Payin, China Doll, High Time, says it all. Given the fact that this is 29 years later and many of us still gravitate to the band is how powerful an impact they had on us then and now.

Hadn't planned to go to this one but glad I did
A friend and I scored tickets last minute and we cruised down there from MA in the rain with one broken wiper (lol). I recall the arena not being full for the first show, but the band kicking first set ass with Alabama/PL openers. I wish I had a tape of this one...it was a pretty good example of what the band was all about in the early 80s before crack and heroin habits started to wear Jerry down.

The first set alone was enough to kick your ass. Every tune from Alabama on was ripped. Incredible show. So much fun -- I was there with all the members of the band I was in at the time. Dancing on the floor during the final Round & Round, Johnny B was just the best, people were just freaking all around. Ah, yes.
