ONE OF THE LOW POINT SHOWS FOR ME
Horrid ride from Philly to Hartford. Bad vibes outside when we got there. Saw kids chased down by cops over and over again. Once inside my stressed out tour buddy was rude to the kids whose seats HE commandeered. Just not good stuff all around and the fact that Jerry was sick and his voice indescribably bad just sapped all of the energ out of the show for me. I never went back to Hartford again.

    Download it
First of three nights...Jerry's voice was froggy from a cold and try as he might, this not he could not compensate with his playing what he could not do with his voice... Download the show: Disc One Disc Two dig it: The Good Ol' Grateful Dead Blog

The Playin' > Crazy Fingers> Franklin's sequence might have been the highlight of the 3-night run although LL Rain on the 4th was pretty intense. Not a lot of great moments in these 3 shows. This was the run that put the band on Double Secret Probation with the city of Hartford. Among other things, the city was not happy about all the overtime they had to pay police officers for keeping an eye on all the Deadheads camping in Bushnell Park on Easter Sunday. Not that there was a lot of trouble but there was SO MANY of us - they kinda freaked out.

The worst show I ever went to, hands down, and the only one I left early. Jerry's voice was trashed and he tossed the mic during Black Peter. It was painful to witness.

I recently celebrated my 20th anniversary to my this, my first show by downloading and listening to it for the first time. It was as bad as i remembered. The crazy fingers has to be one of the worst sung ever. After the show i remember describing Jerry's voice as sounding like gravel falling on sheet metal. About sums it up. And yes he did toss the mic during black peter. Luckily for me the next show i saw was 9-16-88 MSG which converted me for life."Music is the best" - FZ
