    My first Dead concert
NRPS opened the show and Jerry sat in on pedal steel. Then the Dead did their thing. Both groups were great. I was a freshman at U. of I. and my live experience to that point was limited to Steppenwolf at DuQuoin. The Dead changed my life. Best tickets were $4.50 for students, $5.00 for public. Had to borrow $2.00 to cover ticket. They played 2 nights to 7,000 each night (Assembly Hall holds 21,000 I think). I still have the concert poster framed on my wall featuring the "Skull & Roses" design. A friend at Star Course got seats for about 10 of us from the 3rd floor West at Forbes Hall. I walked in with one "spiritual enhancer" in my Marlboro pack but spent a good deal of time trying to keep up with the spirit enhancers and bodas of wine provided by the kindred souls in attendance. I have never failed to share with fellow travellers since.

I have portions of this show recorded off of Dead.net and that recording has Mexicali, not Big Railroad Blues.

These shows from February 21st & 22nd were in Champagne-Urbana at the U of Illinois, cause we drove up from St. Louis. So I was there although I don't have the tapes.
