don't be a hater

Hey PappyPGH,

I wasn't on anything and I thought "Standing on the Moon" was really cool. I think they played it for the 25th anniversary of the moon landing.

Actually, come to think of it, I liked the whole show!

quite the scene

Vermont had never seen anything like that I guarantee it. The heads flocked to this place and it was very cool. Too bad music was marginal at best. It had it's moments but will be remember by me as one of the nicest outdoor east coast gigs in a long time. We sure had fun that I remember, but by this point my days of seeing them often was slowing down so my impression was the band was off but the heads were on.

Standing on the Moon was stellar, Jerry sang that ending "but I'd rather be with you" a few times, went into the guitar outro a bit, and then went back into singing "i'd rather be with you" again and again with intense emotion and it was for me the highpoint of the night. Listen again, its killer

maybe i had too much too fast?

I remember not being able to hear too clearly and spending most of the opening looking for a better spot to hear from. I ended up smack in the middle (prob. 50-74yds from the stage) by the time jack straw came around and the sound was pretty good

An uninspired performance.

The band just fumbled thru the show, the writing was on the wall, and the end seemed near. I left disappointed and sad that my worst fears (read: the dream was soon to be over) were being realized. As it turned out it would be my penultimate show.

The worst show of 50 id seen

The worst show of 50 id seen and my last show unfortunately... no water no light, and every store for 25miles was wiped out of every item they sold. worst traffic jam Ever! Jerry was out of it... sad sad... They worked him TOO hard in 1994 poor fella. Money hungry hounds.

Dead Shows like Highgate, VT are part of the legacy

Highgate, VT was the last time I saw The Greatful Dead as I new them with Jerry Garcia.

The Dead played a show in the middle of nowwhere, because of the demand. What up and coming band from Vermont did/does this?

Dead Shows like Highgate, VT are part of the legacy. Be happy you endured the heat and crowds and SoSo show. \

A GreatfulDead Show has many parts.

Highgate where???

Man...we really dug the thought of a Dead show up in the middle of nowhere Vermont....that was cool...on the other hand the sound was way bad...but we were having a real good time, thank you....
We had a caravan come from Bangor, Maine and had thought this trip out enough so that we had a motel room booked for the night before and the night after, so we could shit, shower and shave the day before and the day after....thank god!
For some reason...the higher we got....Youssou N'Dour became "You should do her"...and that was the theme for the day!!! Another great(ful) Dead experience....

As a head of longstanding

As a head of longstanding (though shows attended of recent past were far and few between - and resigned to the Tri State), I relished the thought of a road trip to Highgate (I would kill for a High Time at Highgate "t" if they were still around - simple but cool). We got there the night before, dug the scene, and I know we moved our car (and forgot to take the cooler - I hope that you enjoyed the vodka and sandwiches ; - )

The show was nowhere near a vg one, but hey, it was a chance to see the Dead out in the country, and beautiful country it was. Y'Sou was just so good. I remember Phil being stage side digging him and his group.

Speedway Boogie was indeed a highlight, but what resonates with me 16 years later, possibly forever, was my really missing home during SOTM - I checked my watch and it was about 5 minutes to midnight. Litttle did I realize that some 350 miles away, my wife was holding our Golden Retriever, Belle, as she 'passed' into the ages at just about that very moment.

This first show at Highgate will be remembered for it's innocence, it's great vibe, and wonderful weather. Too bad, '95 turned out to be a complete disaster and my vowing that it would be my last ever Dead show (little did I know it would be).

Great Crowd, Greatest Venue!

Like I said the crowd in 94 was great, the venue is what made the show. Some people talk about sky divers or whatever, no that guy was flying an ultralight illegally over the air space and got arrested for it. (basically a parachute with an engine and propeller) No one was getting hassled at all, people were all having a good time. The locals welcomed us. What an awesome venue what an awesome crowd! Need the venue for vibes or furthur, I'd drive the 5 hours to go up there instead of the 45 minutes to Mansfield MA any day!
