From the other side.

A friend of my sister recently mentioned she had grown
up in none other than Oxford Maine. I happily told the story
of the weekend and she smiled wide. She was unable to confirm the existence of giant rabbits in the area but, cofirmed it to live on as a piece of the town's folklore. Remembered with a dismayed smile I believe she said. The cycle continues.

Cult of the third eye

What a phenomenal, life-changing weekend!

Gooney Birds and peeking spots!

We were sitting outside the fence at the rear of the speedway on Sunday, smoking, watching people try to sneak in by crawling through a culvert and getting nailed by cops as they emerged inside the arena.

Well, sometime during first set someone came along and stamped eyes on all of our foreheads (sort of an 'eye of horus' type of image) and the cult of the third eye was born. It kept us entertained while we watched the show from the other side. But at some point the gates were opened and we were all let inside, as we had been the night before.

Looks Like Rain and Birdsong definite highlights for me, although much of the details are largely fuzzed out. I do remember word going around that Bob Dylan was landing in a helicopter -- turned out to be an ultralight, I guess.

Unforgettable time -- I still get chills talking about it . .

Best Time ever

This was it! The scene was the best. I remember people skinning dipping in the creek before the show and just a huge mass of people parked everywhere. Shows were great, but it was the whole experience unlike any other I went to. I was reminded of it 10 years later when I went to renew my drivers license and found out it was suspended because I never paid the speeding ticket I got on the way there. Took me a couple hundred bucks and a week of faxing back and forth with State of Maine, but worth every minute.

My Birthday

I don't quite remember this show, because I wasn't technically at it. But if any of you picked up a newspaper on July 4 or July 5 from Oxford Plains and read about a baby that was born at this show, that baby was me. My mom went into labor during the encore of Dear Mr. Fantasy into Hey Jude, and I was born in an EMT office about an hour later. As quoted by my father in the newspaper "he must have wanted to come out and dance".

I do definitely remember you being born! We tried to get out early during the encore (needed to get to Logan for an early flight), but the only road out was already a major cluster. We went nowhere for a long time, and at some point a happy head is walking between the cars singing Yankee Doodle Dandy with emphasis on the "Born on the Fourth of July". He's the one who told us someone was having a baby and the ambulance was trying to get in (or out). What a launch into this world!
Oxford Plains is the place I will forever remember as: Jerry and Crazy Fingers (particularly the verse "something new is waiting to be born"). first child was born 10 months later. I always think of you on July 4th and those few wonderful days spent in Oxford Plains. Happy Birthday!

Jerry spoke

The band always played great in Maine, I think they liked the food or something ayah. Made friends that we stayed n touch with for quite awhile. These were my daughters first shows, and people were so kind, well now that I think about it we formed a taping circle with good ol' and new friends. My friend "Fingers", and I were the archivists, and were trying our first video. Gave up on recording videos. Seems like folks wanted to hear Phil sing, and he interacted, Jerry was saying why don't you yell for Ramrod or Steeeeve. Remember when Jerry spoke people listened.

@Rickyspill - that was Poland Spring we were dipping at.

That pond is fed by Poland Spring - same spring the Maine Water Company got it's name. It was refreshing.

Yes that was a great pair of shows!!!
