What about.......

I thought they ended the concert with " I fought the law "
my almost all time favorite cowboy song! What do you think?

average show

encore was Liberty. technically good but no emotion in 2nd set...going thru motions? maybe pissed at crowd b/c of mob scenes earlier in tour?
also: I remarked during the show...were they saying good-bye?
played unbroken chain (for only 2nd time or something) and the combo of "He's Gone" and "(this c/b) The Last Time" sent chills down my spine at the show. Set list included many of my favorites but just seemed to lack "something".

i too remember - i fought

i too remember - i fought the law - ended the show before they returned to play liberty. the crowd was still singing the refrain - you know our love will not fade away - when they returned to the stage many minutes later.
there must have been something in the air, because i also remember feeling i'd never see them again.
jerry was dead a month or so later.

Nothing Comes for Free...

This was my last show, and it wasn't that great.
However, I completely disagree with the people who have nothing good to say about the 90's, and about how the 70's are the best, and so on. The truth is, every incarnation of the Dead in every era was able to do things that others weren't; every couple of years or so had an unmistakable identity all their own, and treasures therein that couldn't be duplicated by other years' shows.
For example, the Stella Blue at this night was amazing, with Jerry singing his heart out at the end in a way that he never did in the 70's, or the 80's, or any other show I can think of except for very few in the 90's like 3-21-94 at the Richfield Coliseum. For proof, just go to and sort the Dead shows by date-there's an audience recording that you can listen to right away, no downloading or anything.
While much of the music suffered as Jerry became more ill, his ballads increased in power and intensity for some reason.
It was my friend Michelle's birthday, and I'm sure that neither of us will forget this beautiful Stella Blue for as long as we live.
Thank you, Jerry! Rest in peace-you earned it.

Yes, it was a Liberty encore. There was no IFTL...the above set lists are correct. Thanks, OceanRiverCO!

the last time :(

This was my last show and I remember it fondly. (in pryer years we went to Chicago, but due to mixed up tour scedules, St. Louis was closer to home so we had to go) I thought the band was talking to us after the bad scene in Deer Creek. In classic Dead style "He's Gone" and "Last Time" sandwiching the drumz/space spoke volumes, especially a little over a month later when it became reality. A sad, shoking reality. I still miss him, them, all of it; and every one of you, my brothers and sisters!
~ Peace

Most Important Dead Show in History

Sorry for disagreeing. The chain was a treat. The Eyes were also special. But once they gave Phil a mic for UBC, he kicks in with vocals on He's Gone. They did it like it was an old tyme spiritual. Phil basso voice GONE GONE GONE, Bobby wailing like a dog at the moon and Jerry holding it together. THE STELLA though was it. In my mind and view and I have held this from that moment was that two things happened there. Blue light only light on stage on Jerry. Soft. Got to the end of the tune, heartfelt/breaking as always and he repeats the line, Oh, oh Stella Blue 22 times (I counted on the tape). What I got there was this man looking out at us and saying, ya see, you see how GOOD this can be, how sweet. For me that was G's farewell. His Denoument. He knew it. Four weeks or so later, (8.11) we bury ol Jerry AND my father. A full moon in CT. G and my dad are gone (and I always viewed Jer as a brother). It was also my fifth wedding anniversary. KAZING. What a night. Marriage gone now, but man August is a weird memorable month. Peace to you all always and forever and thank you . . . for a real good time. And teaching me that God is music. Thanks.

I didn t go to this show . I rememeber me and my friend Aaron whom , we went to the Wednesday [ ? ] July 5 show , as we droive back to Iowa the same night , there was an incredible storm brewing and reaking havoc about 2 hrs after the show . A lightning bolt struck near the road as we headed down a highway back home

Anyhow , I have to agree w pearlybakerbest on some things . Well , for him Auigust is very personal . And for others also quite personal

I ve had out of this world ' earth ' or lets say normal every day experiences on that month . Must be the planets' positioning or something .

Remember the law oif the eternal return . We [ yes we all ] return existence after existence and do just about the same thing we did in the last existence , here on earth obviously . The key is if we ' discover ' the path , which Jesus asked us to do in the new testament [ 4 main gospels ] , and deeper in the Thomas gospel and Phillip gospel . ( There are other "meseengers " who aked us to find the path , Buddah etc ] . Same path , different master

Okay . That was my minute of gnostic Kaballah for you folks

The dead were , as the fury dude in the GD movie from Winterland said ' the omnipitent GD ' . Their music was clearly god s voice in a beautiful tone and texture . We witnessed something we ' needed ' at that specific moment in earth time . and we are in the Aquarian age . The age when earth has huge ' changes [ happens every 28000 years aprox ] . We have to be striong and when those changes come , be very close to god , vibrating positive energy

Thats why we miss the Dead so much . They were a magnet for the good , or the folks who were inclined to a fine time in every ' good' sense of the word

Peace eternally

My Last Show
The rumors and the violence and the alienation from the soul was of tremendous magitude at these 2 shows following Dear Creep. When Jerry did this Stella, it said how deep the shit had gotten.

My fellow travelers and I were weeping as we felt that last time was now upon us. We felt sorrow of Jerry's fatalism as we hung along with him during Stella. The song was a message of the highest form of zeitgeist...
