Parachutes & Purple Smoke
A beautiful day in a spectacular setting. One of my favorite show memories comes from Park West 83. I had climbed up to the top of the ridgeline overlooking the venue an hour before showtime to take in the sights and was sitting making looking at the crowd below as I made my preparations for the show when I noticed that they had all turned around and were looking at me, or so I thought. That's when I looked up and behind me and saw the dude and the parachute and the purple smoke trail in the sky. I looked back down at the crowd and noticed that some folks had set up a blanket or tarp which I reckoned by the angle of the parachutist's trajectory was to be his landing site. A minute or so later, he nailed the landing. That's when I decided that it was time for me to get down the hill and by the time I made it to the rail on Phil's side, the band was just about ready to start. Spent the day in Utah, with the band up in the hills...
set out running
greyhound to Salt Lake City, then hitched to the show. Got a ride from a Guano farmer. End of a three show run for me, and Labor Day weekend traffic in the West was almost all deadheads. Remember dancing in the middle of some girls who all wore different colored long dresses that swirled all around me. There's a picture of this show that I've seen in different places (Relix for one, I believe) It was taken from the top of the hill, and like a dumbass I moved out of the photographer's way, or I'd have a magazine with a great shot of me at a Dead Show.
Beautiful Setting
Great setting for a show. It looked for all the world like Bobby got dosed during the show. Everything was "normal" during the first set, but during the second set...whoosh! Of course, maybe it was the altitude. If anyone else recalls, please chime in.
Wheel Energy
Awe inspiring show in a spectacular setting..smiles everywhere..Killer setlist.the energies from drums> spanish jam into wheel was one of the most incredulous, almost spun me into orbit!!.SUN & CLOUDS FLOATING BY.Bob ends with "one more Labor day nite"..then down off the mountain, into the rental, and we drove off into the Utah night towards Red rocks..
GD radio
Just listening to the show on GD radio.
Why didn't I get into the Dead sooner ???
Spent ages looking for THE MUSIC wasted lots of time and not a little money.
Alls well that ends well.
Park City
this was the only place I got out of breath due to the elevation-not even @ Red Rocks! well, I do live @ sea level.......what's that old "Byrds" song-"I'm younger than that now".........better change it to older than that now......haha.........
