Park West '83..I should've stayed in Utah

Last Dead concert before I got lost in my medical education...ended up in Kalamazoo, MI.......a few other places later...ended up in Denver, although I never got to see Jerry at Red Rocks
Question?: Was there a warm up artist at this Park West Dead show?

    My First Show
I'm so happy to have stumbled on this page! Yes, this was my first Dead show ever. I had lived in Park City a few years before in my ski bum days and came back to visit friends and for the show. I remember it was storming all the day before and the that morning. As the day wore on it gradually cleared but I remembered clouds threatening. My biggest memory was during the second set when they played Scarlet.....the clouds were covering the sun and it was cold. Then on the first notes of Fire on the Mountain the clouds parted again and there was the sun.....a fire on the mountain.......fuckin blew my mind. The L intensified the experience, naturally.....but it was the most amazing first Dead show there ever could have been and here I am 31 years later, still talking about it!

A beautiful day in a spectacular setting. One of my favorite show memories comes from Park West 83. I had climbed up to the top of the ridgeline overlooking the venue an hour before showtime to take in the sights and was sitting making looking at the crowd below as I made my preparations for the show when I noticed that they had all turned around and were looking at me, or so I thought. That's when I looked up and behind me and saw the dude and the parachute and the purple smoke trail in the sky. I looked back down at the crowd and noticed that some folks had set up a blanket or tarp which I reckoned by the angle of the parachutist's trajectory was to be his landing site. A minute or so later, he nailed the landing. That's when I decided that it was time for me to get down the hill and by the time I made it to the rail on Phil's side, the band was just about ready to start. Spent the day in Utah, with the band up in the hills...

greyhound to Salt Lake City, then hitched to the show. Got a ride from a Guano farmer. End of a three show run for me, and Labor Day weekend traffic in the West was almost all deadheads. Remember dancing in the middle of some girls who all wore different colored long dresses that swirled all around me. There's a picture of this show that I've seen in different places (Relix for one, I believe) It was taken from the top of the hill, and like a dumbass I moved out of the photographer's way, or I'd have a magazine with a great shot of me at a Dead Show.

Great setting for a show. It looked for all the world like Bobby got dosed during the show. Everything was "normal" during the first set, but during the second set...whoosh! Of course, maybe it was the altitude. If anyone else recalls, please chime in.

I was at the 7 11 after the show. I remember thinking this is insane . This is one of the best spanish jams out of 300 or 400 shows I attended. 1987 seemed to lose its appeal for the place for me maybe because i was strung out at this point and the loss of youth
