This venue was in my back yard (well within 20 mins)... Easy to access off the 91 Fwy/Artesia Blvd. The parking here was well thought out for a first time event of this size. It reminded me of a large scale Cal Expo (without the wooden bleachers). It was broadcast on the local radio (KPFK) so tapes were available right after the shows. Good vibes here.
attended at least twelve shows. This was by far the largest gathering I saw . . Had to be 200 k together sharing the day. One large strange trip..and as usual much fun..
my back pack full of ice kept this unicorn day of hot to trot up front and back full of magical enconters that lasted long beyond the hot dry wind blowing me in tears back to placentia and the home to riverside... I LOVE you ALL,,,bryon
This was my last of 40 shows and what did they play for an encore? "The Last Time" by the Stones!!! I had never heard them play this song before and it was new in they're set list. I saw this as a spiritual experiece and felt God talking to me as they repeated "This could be the last time" because I was about to enter an ashram as a monk the following week and knew I wouldn't see any more Dead shows.
Non alcohholic beer is for non alcohholics LOL
I know I didn't type em.......????????
That 'crazy guy' might've been my friend who wasn't actually crazy just out of his mind (so to speak) that day. I can't remember if he took 2 or 3x what we did or just different (bad) stuff, but we lost him before the show and spent ages looking for him after the show. We weren't going to leave without him. It was a spiritual, life-changing experience for him. The stories he told us afterwards affected us all for years to come: battles with good and evil, God and satan, etc. Needless to say it was his last show and he's been 100% sober since. Amazing the things that were possible at a dead show.
Yes, What A Grateful Day ! Was nice, enjoyable and,peacefull...
There was NO BEER. which I kinda like. No stupid drunks spilling suds on your sandels. Lots of Twirling,So graceful. Happy Times !! My 5th Dead show !! on the soccer field. fun, my first loose lucy. kentucky derby day, so the race was on. my buddy somehow brought a 10lb bag of ice to the middle of the field and dumped it on the ground, right when uncle johns' verse came, "...fire and the ice." the weight encore was a new special treat too. lots of first timers brought to this show. somehow i got in to this message circle toward the front on phils side of about 20 people. some guy was trying to record the song from his ghetto blaster. lots of dancing barefoot
