I went to this with my new wife, Kathy, and a couple of friends, Patrick and Obie. At the time, Kathy and I were into yoga and meditation. We had to wait a long time outside, sitting on the ground, and I looked up all of a sudden to see Bob Weir and Phil Lesh standing over me! I tried to tell Obie to look, but he was oblivious. I stood up and offered my hand to Phil and Bob. I managed to say something like, "we're are sure looking forward to hearing you play", and I also asked about Pig Pen. Bob said he wasn't with them, "he's a sick boy", and I told him I was sorry. I stood there for a second silent in awe, and I remember Bob being so gracious as to wait a second for me to compose myself, but when it got awkward, he politely said he needed to get going. I felt blessed, that I'd had his darshan. He was totally present and attentive to me, and I will always remember, here was a star who was as actually as great a person as we imagined him to be. Afterward, Patrick said " Maybe that meditation does some good after all." The show was great, by the way, as you can hear on the recent CD. To me it will always be one of their very best.
