Grateful Dead
On Wisconsin Vine
+ More Info
You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. I made some "Have a Jerry Little Christmas" cards a few years ago, printed out some photos of Jerry and glued red construction paper Santa suits/hats on 'em with cotton balls for the fur trim. They went over well.
It's not just 'cause I'm greedy for free tidbits of Jerry tunes (although I am, always), this has been a very entertaining contest, and the discussions on these threads have made for enjoyable reading. I guess the publishing or marketing or whatever of Jerry's work is somewhat more complicated than for the GD, what with that Garcia Family Trust owning the rights (and bless 'em for whatever they let out), but still it seems doable. The JGAB releases are pretty nice - I've had the Acoustic Band album forever and that Ragged but Right is welcome, obviously, but there are a ton of Garcia Band shows out there I'd be happy to hear some more of.
One thing I've noticed with the 30 Days is that with the exception of I Know You Rider, these are all composed by the band members. We have yet to see well know covers such as Good Lovin', Lovelight, Dancin', Morning Dew, etc.
Although there are a bunch more signature tunes written by the band members - more than enough to finish out the month - there are some great cover songs to be had, no doubt. Dylan, the Beatles (LUCY!!!!)...I'm guessing there are issues regarding royalty payments that are easy to handle if it's on CDs being sold, but not so easy to handle if it's on music being given away like these are. Probably a similar issue would arise if any tunes with a "guest artist" were to be made available, or from one of the Hornsby shows.
There's still sooooooo much to pick from though, any complications are easily avoided.
Would love to have a Hornsby show thrown into the mix.
...don't get enough respect.
Just got home. Missed another morning.
anybody want to flow me some hints. What a tough one. I have lots of truck'ins on my iPod and I can never keep them straight. I'm lost in a sea of 70/71 insanity! What a trip. I'm lost on that road.
Any luck elsewhere?
Um, how about... Look at the venues we've already seen.
Fun fun fun
thankX

it's cold here finally. I wonder if Winter is around the corner?

I should add that if you can find the song in iTunes, but the song file is missing, that is indicated that with a gray exclamation icon in the left margin.
