You know your Ables from your Bakers from your C's, but can your finely tuned ears differentiate the cosmic "comeback" tour from a spacey 70's show? Each day we'll post a free download from one of the Dead's coveted shows. Will it be from that magical night at Madison Square Garden in '93 or from way back when they were just starting to warm it up at Winterland? Is that Pigpen's harmonica we hear? Brent on keys? Step right up and try your hand.
Each day, the first person to guess the venue & date correctly will get a Road Trips of their choice. If you’re not first but you've answered correctly, you will also be automatically entered for a weekly prize of THE WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO ALBUMS VINYL BOX (EXCLUSIVE EDITION) or a FORMERLY THE WARLOCKS boxed set. This is awesome! What a surprise! A month of cool stuff with a Dark Star on my Bday!
ThankX!!!!!!!
Somebody had a fried snickers after this show!
Thank you Canyon Critter so much for posting the previous downloads! I had missed the first day, and was so sad that I missed out! You've made me a happy gal! :)
Really really grateful for the links thank you!
Have regard for your covenant, because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land. Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name. Psalm 74
Having heard people having issues with getting the full download, I was suspicious that my download of "New Speedway Boogie" was short, it was. Approximately 3 minutes short of what was in the link you posted ( I also check the track on the archive ). I re-downloaded the others just to check though I felt sure I had those correctly. I noticed you weren't sure about "Playing in the Band" and I did come up quite short on that re-download. FYI and thanks for the links.
D-rae: Thank you. I saw earlier posts saying that it must be our home computers's problem and it seems more likely that this web site has many unresolved bugs/issues and/or it's on total overload from having record numbers of vistors.
It was not my intention to merely complain and be negative, but rather to gather a list of problems so that the webmasters might have some data with which to work ...
Otherwise ... Whoooooo Hoooooo!! Can't never have too much Grateful Dead!! Big thanks to the ones who thought of this promotion and got it to see the light of day ... and I'll be here everyday to play and even if I don't win a prize, we're all winning by getting this great vault material ...
Donna was absent for a few shows in late '73, expecting her first child.
She was back in 1974 and in the song I guessed from that summer.
I don't think there were any long PITB's in '72.
The longest one was from Seattle on May 21, 1974 @ 46 minutes !!
Thanks for the comments regarding incomplete files and links for the previous days' songs. I checked my download, was missing part of the file and had to try again, too. Since We Are Everywhere, there may be a lot of us crowding in here together. Sometimes it just might be a bit too crowded and service gets slow for all. Fortunately, we are allowed to re-enter later and download the song when the rush of the crowd has passed. The first couple of hours after the song becomes available must be incredibly busy. Thanks for the great music.

arkusrymer: a similar thing happened to me. On the first day it was unclear if my submission had gone through, so I tried again. I got a prompt saying I had already submitted. Today, when it was unclear if it went through I submitted again and it went through. So I tried one more time hoping to get the "already submitted" message, but that one went through too. Hopefully the powers that be in Dead-land will realize there are a few issues and forgive us our glitches. You'll notice that some people have posted their messages as many as four times here. I'm glad I'm not the only one having occasional problems. But through it all, this is a blast!
