Grateful Dead
November 26
We're on a mission to make a miracle every day. As a token of our appreciation for making 2011 an epic year, we're giving away a high-quality 320Kbps MP3 download every day this month. That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault, selected by tape archivist David Lemieux! Intrigued? We're also going to put your knowledge to the test and give you the chance to win some sweet swag from the Dead.
Guess the venue & date correctly and you'll be automatically entered to win the prize of the day. Each day a winner will be selected at random, so take your time and make your best guess! Answer correctly, and you will also be automatically entered for our Grand Prize - an All Music Edition of Europe '72: The Complete Recordings. What are you waiting for? Grab today's song below.
Thank you for playing 30 Days of Dead. The answer to this day's contest is:
Atlanta, GA, Omni Coliseum
04/02/1990
This is the opening song from the penultimate show of what’s often considered one of the finest tours of the Grateful Dead’s final two decades of performing. Like a good Shakedown Street opener, Stranger allowed the band a chance to stretch out from the beginning of the show, indicating it was usually going to be a hot show ahead.
We'll be contacting the winner shortly.

This run at the Omni was my only East coast set of shows. Well worth the trip. The band is really cooking. I miss Brent.
Did not know they took stranger to this new level, Oh I am so excited to get this song. I really love this more progressive version, just shows you how the music really was everything to the boys, and how they are commited to going further.
Both Archive.org and Setlist.org have this venue as just being called "The Omni", not "Omni Coliseum".
i know i got those strange feelings
remember getting them at the shows too
12/28/89?
Besides the obvious fan energy of MSG, NYC- this venue has made the hair on the back of my neck and arms stand up like peach fuzz (or was that my dehydrated body on X telling me something?). I love the when you can hear a great matrix recording from this venue. The circus is definitely in town when they play.
of this year. Good to hear the sound quality upped of this show, the aud I have there's that one riff Brent plays in the 1st verse section that is too HOT in the mix and scares the shit out you if you're listening too closely. Great version of Stranger!
Hi everyone,
The download button isn't working for me today. Anyone else having problems with it? thanks. I even logged in and tried, but it still didn't work. thank you
hugs, Star
Wow my first show !!!
I think this song is fairly under-rated... Totally original! What does this song sound like besides a Dead song? Nothing!
Sure sounds a lot like the Without A Net version... from the last truly legendary Dead tour... I said it before here, these guys could do NO wrong on this tour!
Anyway, I ain't got time to listen to archive Strangers looking for a particular in hopes of winning a pocket knife... but adding up a coupla clues (flavaham: brilliant!) leads me to believe this is from the first set of a particular show...
...Yes, a particular show of which I only have a tape of the second set, but if I am correct: Whoa! What a second set! This tape was the ONE I would give to newbies in hopes they might hear the magic! And magic it is...
Dave: you killlin' it this year buddy!
Yeah!
If the comment below my above is correct... I'm a month too late!
No matter... the prize here is the tune!
Sincerely,
Dominguez Hills
Great tour! I wasn't at this show or the run, but I did see 4 shows in the weeks prior. My hint is that it is the night 2 of a 3 night run to end the tour .... good luck!

Not a hint, but this show was full of goodbyes :(........
Struggled more than I thought I would with this one. Had a pretty good idea of the period (early by a year or so). Your clue narrowed it down a lot, as did the spring tour comments. Thanks!
thanks to 44moose and folkhippy for the hints in getting me to the correct date and venue
Glad you found your way.

felt like it, but I can't stop wondering.

Have mercy!! Luckily, this isn't the last time we get to do this for the month!
gettin' strange for you?
One helpful hint was all I needed today - thanks ;)
...and I may have even been there, but I can't rightly place it. Just took a wild guess, but I am sure of the year!
this show was great...I am thinking 1990's with Brent and Jerry's guitar sound...
nice run...classic spring venue...
It must have been reckless and hot at this show.
There was someone out there who was begging for a track from this venue.
I knew this one from the first note. Was in attendance, had copies of this run for years, and would more than eagerly welcome an official release.
