Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll check out some Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1979 and 1987.
Our first stop is on 12/6/73 in Cleveland, when the Dead were heading toward the of one of their best years, 1973, and from the first set of this fine show we have Beat It On Down The Line ; Deal ; El Paso ; Row Jimmy ; Greatest Story Ever Told ; China Cat Sunflower> I Know You Rider ; Around And Around.
Next up is music from Brent's first year in the Grateful Dead, 1979, with the opening of the second set from 12/5/79 in Chicago, the third night of an excellent three night stand. Shakedown Street, Samson And Delilah, Ship Of Fools, He's Gone > The Other One. I'm always a big fan of the pre-Drums Other Ones, and this one delivers.
Lastly this week is the start of the first set from 9/20/87, the final night at Madison Square Garden during their five night return to MSG after four years away. From that show we have Jack Straw> West L.A. Fadeaway, My Brother Esau,; Far From Me , It Must Have Been The Roses, Desolation Row. The Desolation Row gets cut off as that's where the tape flip is on this master cassette, but rest assured the entire song does exist on the master PCM digital recording.
Be sure to join us next week fore more music from the vault.
