Dancing in the Streets
This was indeed the first Dancing in the Streets in almost two years! It was SWELL, with a few glitches here and there. Afterwards Bobby said something such as, "This just goes to show that our memories are much better than we have any right to expect them to be, yet still not all that good."
Great scenes from the show:
o There is a VERY low wall that separates the floor seats from the rest of the hall, and Deadheads popped over it easily as soon as the lights went down. The dancers then went about quickly folding up 30 rows of seats at the back of the hall to make a dance floor; neatly stacking the chairs in a corner.
o Saw a redneck who had been harassing deadheads in the parking lot before the show. He was standing by himself in the middle of the second set, yelling, "We should all... love each other! We should all... be together!"
Whee!

Long ride
up from Dallas. Went with friends to Manor Downs on the 4th. They stayed in Dallas and I rode north to catch the show in KC.
My first mistake was taking off my motorcycle helmet before I parked my bike. I was coasting across the street and got a ticket for not wearing a helmet. Never paid that ticket.
Hanging out in a park across the street before the show, some guys were selling I-(heart)-GD bumper stickers. I said they should put the bumper sticker on a cop car. The guy with the stickers said he'd turn me on if I did it. Just as I smoothed the sticker on the cop's bumper, the cop walked up. But he smiled and waved OK and we surfed those good vibes right into the hall.
However, I was near some tapers and I guess I was having too much fun for them because they called an usher and got me thrown out! Kicked out of a Dead concert for dancing too close to a taper? WTF. Changed my view of the whole scene.
Oh well, I always smile remembering the bumper sticker on the cop car bit.
Taping was unpopular too
I was up front with a Sony recorder and the security was intense to the point my taping effort was fruitless.... It is difficult to be quiet, run the tape equipment, clandestinely, and enjoy the show when bouncers are yelling & grabbing equipment.
Great night
I remember dancing inthe back of the room when all of a sudden I apart of a 2 to 3 minute hallucination that seemd like an out of body experience. when it was done we had folded half the chairs on the floor and the dancing got going.
My first Dead show
This was my first Dead concert. My friends barely survived driving back to Omaha after the show. The driver dozed off and veered into a ditch but woke up in time to lurch back onto the highway. Everyone else had been asleep, but suddenly they were wide awake and more than willing to take over driving.
