Bad Cop is, of course, on the label, but you can also find releases from Useless Eaters, Turbo Fruits, Natural Child, Ranch Ghost, Ghost Dance, Majestico, Little Viking, Western Medication, Promised Land, Fancytramp, Magic Milk, and more. Why no JGB thread?
Didn't know where to put this question, and I apologize if it has been asked and answered elsewhere, but I didn't see a thread for JGB. Not in GD section. Not in this one. Ratdog. Phil & Friends. Donna Jean. Mickey. But no JGB? Seems rather curious, to say the least. They are still putting out releases, Garcia Live, for instance, and I just wandered over to see if there was opinion on it, and no thread for JGB. What's up?

I agree with Marye that this is well worth listening to. Even better is the Barnes and Noble exclusive edition which features 6 demos on a second CD. Three of the six feature on the regular album, three do not. These are not rough but polished demos. I actually prefer the demo disc to the regular disc (don't tell Boz !).

especially if you like his earlier work: the Boz Scaggs Memphis album currently sitting by the cash register at my local Starbucks, where it caught me in a weak moment this morning. As the name suggests, Boz goes to Memphis and gets some great session folks and does old tunes. More smoldering than pyrotechnic, but some very nice moments. I think my favorite so far is "Corinna, Corinna," not the Hunter song but the old folk song that's on that early Bob Dylan album...

Moe, like The Grateful Dead and others, are jam bands. Both groups have multiple drummers, and drift off into places that only our minds tend to wonder around in, or atleast mine anyway. I discovered Moe by going to a website called, Pandora.com, it's an online radio station that you can taylor to your tastes. Type in "The Grateful Dead," and they will play Dead songs along with other suggestions. It's all free, with the ocassional interruption trying to sell you music, but they get really creative when it comes to exposing you to other artists that fit the genre that you're into. If you've never heard of Moe, songs such as; Mexico, She, Moth, The Weight, are all good places to start. I thought the Dead had some long songs until I heard these guys...

It does say "Local and otherwise!" We're a Pittsburgh Jam Band and we do some good ol' GD, as well as Beatles, Phish, Dylan, Originals and a bunch more. Our website is www.theCAUSEjams.com and we have streaming audio of some stuff from recent live shows. We're a bunch of old dudes & gals who simply love the jam. The tightness of a song, as well as the loose improv feel. Sound like anyone you may know? ;) Here's a link to our most recent show - full live version available for listen or download: http://www.archive.org/details/theCAUSE_Halloween2008_PDs Hope ya like it! ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

Some of the best acoustic shows I have ever seen, get out and try to see them if you can. Just came out with a new album about a month or two ago, Tennesssee Pusher. Even if your not that into bluegrass, which I am not a huge fan, I am sure that you will enjoy yourself with the amount of energy put into it. If you can see them in a small place first you will be hooked. Peace.

The last time we played Moondog's in December, it was a day in Pittsburgh kinda like this one....cold, wet & snowy. We didn't think too many people would come, but wouldn't you know it? Great crowd and it was a night of pure magic! Tonight, we return to Moondog's in December on a cold, wet & snowy night and we're having our First Annual Eat-Drink-And-Be-Merry Holiday Potluck Party! Anyone know of any Grateful Dead-oriented bands in Santa Barbara? Moving from Albany where I can go out once a week and see an awesome cover for $5 plus a lot of other live music in the area, so I guess I kinda took it for granted at thought of not having that available to me . I actually don't know what I'd do being able to listenin to the music play when I get confused ;-). I'd definitely love to know where to find the local heads and good music. Much thanks. ~Nasa

The Schwag They are a fabulous GD cover band...they hold summer festivals in MO and tour throughout the midwest. Stu Allen (guitarist from JGB) just signed on to be their "permanent" guitarist. This guy's Jerry vocals are breathtaking. He truly sounds like 80's-90's Jerry....not to mention his guitar playing is phenomenal. Jerry's soul is definitely with Stu Allen. Check him out on archive.org...he also played with a GD tribute "Workingman's Ed" a lil in the past. The guy is amazing. String Cheese Incident is also a favorite of mine...although they are currently on a hiatus. Michael Kang from String Cheese also played guitar for The Schwag at a couple of Schwagstocks last year...good stuff...Bill Nershi from String Cheese also sat in for a few songs each night.

Grateful Greetings to ALL. My buddy April told me about this site. Nice! I wanted to share the gift of this very special Canadian Artist and his MUSIC with you: IAN THORNLEY I don't know if anybody on the board recalls BIG WRECK, (Ian's first project, whole band is amazing) but if you are able to get your hands on either of the two albums these are superb. "In Loving Memory Of" "The Pleasure & The Greed" The new album Tiny Pictures will be out on Feb. 10 (w/ Artwork by none other than Pink Floyd legend Storm Thorgerson as well. I am diggin' the new single cover art for Ian's new single Make Believe, really cool vibes on that for the travelers.) Ian is a multi~instrumentalist, composer and vocalist of another caliber entirely. His guitar prowess is out of this world. There is so much appreciation for GREAT SONG within this community I hope you don't mind a kindred share... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H83yLnR4Fkg&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9USwOFGljwg&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2MCq5U8tXU&feature=channel_page drop.io/thornleyfans (contains some incredible unreleased tracks) thornleyband.com myspace.com/thornicus (please check this one out, great track...great bio) (and please feel free to jump on the Thornley message boards as well. here's the unofficial site hosted by some very sweet, cool beings in Canada... thornleyrocks.proboards101.com) Thanks everybody. The DeFelice Brothers, from upstate NY, are an earthy roots rock type band who really capture that upstate vibe: take a listen to "Rockefeller Drug Law Blues." And one that goes a but further afield is O.A.R. I went to a concert a few summers ago, and absolutely enjoyed it. I may have been the oldest guy there, but I could still feel the connection they have with their crowd, and they played some pretty inspired jams.

So the Dead go west after May 2nd!! Looking for a Dead show the following weekend for only $15 in advance $20 @ the door? KIC Productions presents Melvin Seals & JGB SATURDAY 5-9-09 @ ZPak Live Home of Va Brew Co. We are at the Northern most part of VA 15 min from MD & WV. Come catch JGB yes the real JGB (- Jerry of course). Get more details @ www.myspace.com/zeropak or www.ZEROPAKLIVE.com Melvin is best known for his long friendship and musical partnership with cultural icon and guitarist Jerry Garcia and the smile of his that lights up the room. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". From blues to funk to rock to jazz, Melvin Seals serves up a tasty mix with a little R&B and gospel thrown in to spice things up. Melvin and JGB brings an intuitive, expressive style, soul, spontaneity and remarkable chops to the table. With acoustic and electric ingredients and unique combinations of guitar, mandolin, slide and lap steel with savory bass, hearty drums and, of course, a heapin' helpin' of the wizard's magic on Hammond B-3 Organ and keyboards, the result is a most satisfying blend of natural organic grooves that challenges genre boundaries. Their chemistry is the focus from which they create a spontaneous and high art where the sky is the limit musically. They offer an exciting, often psychedelic musical journey that keeps audiences dancing and smiling (and some staring in amazement) for several hours. Melvin is pioneering a path deeper into the musical territory he helped to establish.

This wonderful studio album [MOONALICE} starts off with "Bleeding Of Love" penned by Ann McNamee with her fine, smooth, soulful voice pleading for relief from false feelings and untrue expressions of love on the run.The powerful pounding heartbeat of James Sanchez'drums, and Jack Casady' powerful bass pulsate throughout this debut masterpiece! Ann'vocals are stunning as well on her other compositions on this album which include "Dance Into The Lightning", "This Changes Everything", and "Listen To Those Eyes". "Bleeding Of Love" flows perfectly into another of Ann' songs "Unspoken Words" sung by Pete Sears of love distroyed by false feelings and words left unsaid, "The heavy weight of unspoken words keeps us apart". A melencoly song by Roger McNamee of one sided love follows that all of our hearts have cried for as not to be true but having to accept as a reality to be haunted by for evermore. And in his head she said, "I'm Glad You Think So". This is one of my favorite songs by Roger. Roger and Ann have been together longer than musical partners in the "Flying Other Brothers" along with pete, Barry, and GE along with others was the tree branch which "MOONALICE" grew from. Roger and Ann are a happily married proud couple who met at a "Jerry Garcia Band" show they were enjoying in the 80'as many of the rest of us have come together at as well. Thank you Jerry!! This bond is strong in their writings together as evidenced in the powerful tune of how quickly situations can change with lives turned upside down in the "Blink Of An Eye". The beautiful guitar and pedal steel guitar melodys flow wonderfully through these stories played by Barry Sless in the style only he can create. "Eileen Aroon" is a classic Irish ballad recorded by the Claney Brothers in 1961 with a newer version being performed during the 1988-89 tours by Bob Dylan' Band with the great guitar player GE Smith who' own arraingment is included here which he sings adding his outstanding classic guitar sound to make it his own. "I Ain't Ever Satisfied" by Steve Earle is also performed here in GE Smith' own unique vocal style and makes this reviewer very satisfied indeed! "Dusty Streets Of Cairo" is GE' original composition on this release and one of it's strongest selections with GE" guitar and Barry' pedal steel dancing beautifully togethor. "Kick It Open" is a rocking infectious tune by keyboardist extrodinare Pete Sears who sings the songs lyrics written by his wife Jeannette who as a team have composed songs in their long history including many of Jefferson Starship’s hits including Stranger, Awakening,Save Your Love, and Winds of Change just to name a few. Pete Sears was also part of the early "Rod Stewart" albums as well as playing with just about every musician and band from the San Francisco Bay Area' musical royality at one time or another over the years. If you love tender, true, genuine, from the heart music then "MOONALICE" is for you! A band of fine musicians and legends in music. Because we all know "It's all about the music"!!!! That's the Moonalice Tribes motto so join the tribe and start being "Satisfied". Moonalice posts it's live shows for free on their websites for us all to enjoy: http://www.moonaliceband.com/music/ http://www.youtube.com/moonalice http://twitter.com/Moonalice So if you like what you hear support the band, buy their album, join the tribe, and come to shows and tell them how awesome they are. Moonalice is: Ann & Roger McNamee (Flying Other Brothers) Pete Sears (Jefferson Starship, Rod Stewart) Barry Sless (Phil Lesh & Friends, David Nelson Band), , and Jim Sanchez (Dr. John, Boz Scaggs) GE Smith (Saturday Night Live, Bob Dylan), Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna), Review by Dennis Koessel now aka "Greeney52Moonalice"
