re: First Show
meh. a turning point
the setlist makes it out to be pretty poppin', but not a fun show. I'd been gone from the scene for a couple of years and it was a lot different. Too many fucked-up people there only for the party. It had always been a party, but the music was also always front and center, closely followed by the Deadhead ethos. Neither of these things were present in the crowd in Louisville.
first show
made the trip in an old Volkswagen beetle from east TN. I was 19. We were on the front in the balcony. A guy tried to jump off right in front of us - we managed to grab him by his serape and pull him back over the railing. Security guys came and got him and then one came back to thank us. He said in a very serious voice "We think he might be on LSD" ummm... all 3 of us that saved him were shrooming to the moon at the time. Had to sleep in the parking lot - bitter cold that night.
