I got an email a few days ago talking about an acoustic Dead show from 1970. There were links to record stores but no one had ever hear of it. Is it available? The show poster featured Bob "Ace" something and a few other groups. Any info would be appreciated.

I assume you may be referring to this rare show from the Family Dog at the Great Highway billed as Mickey Hart and His Heartbeats and Bobby Ace: http://www.dead.net/store/1970s/family-dog-great-highway-san-francisco-… It was originally released on vinyl as part of last year's Black Friday Record Store Day.

In a Flatbush Zombies rap music video they've got many Dead memorabilia, such as the skeleton with a headband of roses, and Zombie Juice is usually wearing Dead t shirts. It's like his beard is a tribute to Jerry

It could be from Bobby's solo project, titled: "Ace". Maybe you're searching for the Dead when it is really a solo by Bobby. Just a guess.

I know it sounds crazy but I think the time has come for the bastions of American Pop Culture, the tv shows #AmericanIdol and #TheVoice to celebrate the songwriting and lyrical genius of The Grateful Dead. I created a facebook page DeadIdolVoices to start gathering a petition of "Likes" to see if the producers of those shows will take note. Please feel free to hit the page and show your support! I mean seriously... if Justin Timberlake is wearing a "Stealie" and Taylor Swift is praising Bob Weir as an inspiration then why the heck not? Seems like a good way to add to the fun of celebrating 50 years and the amazing influence the Grateful Dead has had on music.

Good point Far-L. Apart from Touch of Grey Buzz in the late 80s, GD has never been really recognized by main stream society. That might be kind of the point, or just how us Deadheads and the Band want it. But as years go by, I can see GD being recognized more and more for being ahead of their time and being major contributors to all sorts of things, both musically, socially, and more. That would be interesting to see GD stuff on Idol. I'm sure they would Cheese the sh#t out of it, but hell, it could be amusing!

Early Donna, Playin' she joined as the song was being worked out and by 77 it was often a 30 minute monster...that's all I got, it was mostly filler until she felt comfortable around Mars Hotel time.... You ain't woman enough to take my man? But it ain't Dead... Anyone anyone Beuller?

Really rrrrrrrgrrrr summed it up well. Really she was tough to listen to at first, I mean not only was she thrown into the part in Playin' but she also (may have been) a key factor in Greatest Story, but again, she either approached it like Playin' with loud caterwauling. In my opinion, there were two factors playing with her - first she hadn't figured out the singing styles of either Jerry or Bobby and just plain blew the house down; Jerry never stood a chance. Second, the levels were pretty crap till around '76 when Bear finally seemed to have the early spiders in the electronics system worked out and his new invention of monitors and stereo concerts (not on a venue PA) was running like a top. That said, to maybe add to what rrrrrrrrgrrrrrrrr said I would draw your attention to '76, where she completely changed Cosmic Charlie...before it was this loopy kinda bouncy song that the tempo varied considerably from one playing to the next, then DJ turned it into this beautiful opus. Look at her June '76 run with it...amazing how she harmonized with the guys and turned this song that was choppy and all over the place, to this magnificent ballad with an upper range that it never knew and needed (imo). Symphonic and magnificent - it was at this point that I changed my opinion from "I hope Donna isn't going to sing tonight" to "I hope DJ burns the house down like she did the night before." Let's not even talk about her work with the JGB...Jerry kept her around for a reason. She had/has a range that most other professional singers would kill for...she just needed to reign herself in and blend with the others...

I googled Grateful Dead today and one of the first results was an opinion piece on a Alabama news website. The article, titled: 'Grateful Dead, LSD, and Tie-dye? Not in Alabama thank you very much', states that 'the website Estately recently looked at the places in America where the most hippies live. Alabama came in at number 46th in the country, ranking low on the hippie meter for almost every category, with a slight uptick for social media interest in the tune in and drop out lifestyle'. Saw the boys perform on the Jimmy Fallon Show, they did a great job on a short version of Shakedown. Bonus online Brown Eyed Women to get the ladies in the mood. Bob gave a wooo during Shakedown as the crowd neglected their part (forgive them, they dont know when or how) Fallon is super excited for the summer tour and IMO did good in the way of getting others excited as well. John seems to me very serious about his role playin' in the band and is doing his best to give new life to our beloved GD songs. At the end of the show, when they all lined up together on the stage, Bob was winking and pointing to the Summer Tour poster like he was saying " Yeah guys, come on tour this summer...its gonna be a real good time!" Cant wait to see them in Indy and Alpine! Will I see you too?
