R.I.P Lowell George
As I recall, Lowell George, who produced Shakedown Street, passed away the previous day. Needless to say, the boys were not playing with a ton of joy this day.
Crappy venue, too. A race track...oh boy!
I Need A Miracle
Bobby dedicated "I Need A Miracle" To Lowell George. Openig acts included David Bromberg and the Byrds if I recall correctly. Eight Miles High...
Not the Byrds, but close!
Not the Byrds, but close! It was McGuinn, Clark and Hillman. Those three reunited in 1978, went on tour for several months, and even released some albums.
At the beginning of the second set
Bobby said that Lowell "was good while he lasted". It was a rainy day out there at the track.
The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.
He's Gone
The band was in tears or close to it during He's Gone. The sound of the place made it feel like you were listening to a record rather than Live Dead.
Had an amazing experience at the start of the show. It was cloudy with just bits of blue in the sky. From about 5-6 rows of people back I yelled a request for Here Comes Sunshine. As Bobby and Jerry trade off on show starting songs, it was Bobby's turn for a Bobby song to start. Jerry looked at me when I yelled my request and he went into a lick or two of Here C S.
Bobby whirled around and yelled no at Jerry. With an intense stare Jerry looked my way helplessly. The crowd between Jerry and I parted like the Red Sea with everybody lookin at Jerry and back to me. So Weird.
Every time that Wheel goes 'round, bound to cover just a little more ground!
