March 26 - April 1, 2012
Greetings, and welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1966, 1979 and 1980.
Our first selection this week is from the Matrix on 12/1/66, one of the only tapes we have in the vault from the second half of 1966. From this mighty interesting show, we have It Hurts Me Too ; On The Road Again ; Yonder's Wall; My Own Fault ; Down So Long ; Cold Rain And Snow ; Viola Lee Blues.
Next up is the first half of the first set of the first night of a three night run in Chicago in December, 1979. From 13/3/79, we have Alabama Getaway > The Promised Land ; Brown Eyed Women ; El Paso; Ramble On Rose ; It's All Over Now.
Lastly this week is a nice batch of 1980 Dead, from 12/13/80 in Long Beach, CA. After the good-but-(mostly)-not great runs at the Warfield and Radio City in the Fall of 1980, the band really seemed to step up their game with the shows in November and December of 1980. From this show in Southern California, we have New Minglewood Blues ; Ramble On Rose ; Lost Sailor> Saint Of Circumstance> Deal.
Be sure to stop by next week for more tunes from the vault.
Not so knowledgeable about Pigpen, it did not sound to me like he was singing at this Matrix show. A little search turned up the work done by Light into Ashes on Internet Archive (http://archive.org/post/331135/special-guests), who claims this is actually Elvin Bishop. Must have been a great time to be alive --- so much jamming! If I could only go back in time...

I appreciate it, so much...
so, so, much.
I need a little harmonica.
I love it.
Tremendous musical vibes of love n light to All.
This is an embaressment to this whole site. If you have a soapbox or a platform, go stand on it and leave the rest of us who are really here for only the music alone. Shame on you for degenerating the generation!!!!
I'm surprised there haven't been more complaints about that cut in Bobby's slide solo in Minglewood. Especially since Bobby's slide playing is the main reason so many people love this band...right?
On a seriouser note, I do like the late 1980 sound. Always did like Dead set, even if the Franklin's and the Fire on that album are each only about 3 minutes long.
what we would call the 13th month, Janumember? :) anyway that 13-3-79er is nice but the December 80 is hot.
