October 17- October 23, 2011
Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have a batch of Grateful Dead spanning a short spam, 1988-1992.
Our first stop this week is at the Met Center in Bloomington, MN, where we have the post-Drums sequence made up of Space>The Wheel>Gimme Some Lovin'>All Along The Watchtower>Black Peter>Lovelight. This was the first show of the tour that would also see stops at Alpine, Buckeye, SPAC, Rochester and Oxford, ME.
Next is another post-Drums sequence, this one from 6/10/90, the final night of a three night run at Cal Expo, featuring Gimme Some Lovin' > Standing On The Moon > Throwing Stones > Not Fade Away, The Last Time. These were some mighty fine shows, and make up the start of the summer tour that would end up being Brent's final tour with the band. The next two weekends of shows after this, at Shoreline and Eugene, are also excellent.
Finally this week, from the second of a two night run at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany, NY, we have Space > The Last Time > China Doll > Sugar Magnolia, Attics Of My Life. This was the first tour featuring only Vince on the entire tour, as Bruce had left after the 3/23/92 show at the Palace in Auburn Hills, MI.
Join us back here next week for more great tunes from the Grateful Dead archive. And as always, feel free to write to us at the email address below.
All 3 links work for me but the volume of the 1990 show is too low.
That 3rd post smells like spam.
...this seems to be a never-ending problem that recurs not infrequently, when clips take a while to function correctly. Is there some in between step between DL's picking them and them being transferred to this feature that somebody should check every week? Forgive me for sticking my nose in.
Yes, the first clip seems to be working.
Thanks for your help!
My only visit to the Cal Expo was in the spring of 1990. Shorline shows the next weekend would be my last in California. I sort of got off the bus after this too in body but I've allways been on in spirit. I moved back to Montreal started a business had a family. I can't believe it was 21 years ago! Thanks for the music and the memories.
now fixed, we think...
second clip is playing fine for me. Are you still having this issue?
..check out the Saints of Circumstance at the Whiskey Junction in Mpls on Thursday night. we've been doing every Thursday for months over there, however that is about to come to a close after next week..... tomorrow (10/20/11) is our 2nd to last Whiskey. BUT, we'll be moving to a place called the Driftwood Char Bar for every 1st Friday of each month, starting 11/4/11. The Driftwood is near 44th and Nicollet Ave S, which also hosts a weekly Sunday Dead cover group, the Shotgun Ragtime Band (i also join bi-weekly ;)
...shoot me an email, firstname.lastname@example.org, and i can likely arrange a some sit in tunes with the Sunday jams... they are semi-open jams..
both groups have no cover charge for shows.. Whiskey SoC shows go from around 9:30-bar close... the SRB @ Driftwood goes from about 4-9pm. SoC will have the same set times when they move to the Driftwood for Fridays too...
We Love to meet new heads!!! please come on out... and David Gans is playing next door at the Cabooze tomorrow too!!
I for one also would like to hear this one again as I was at this show. I grew up here and moved out to San Diego in 1987 and flew back for the party. I've been back for 15 years and I'm looking for a band here in the twincities who needs a knowledgable guitarist for dead covers. Hope you get it fixed. Brent.
