mistake in dates

Anwar Al Sadat, president of Egypt at the time GD played there was assasinated in 1981 not 1991.Sorry .. (from wikipedia) "His visit to Israel and the eventual Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty won him the Courage of Conscience award September 11, 1991 posthumously, but was an act enormously unpopular with the Arab world and Islamists, and resulted in Egypt being expelled from the Arab League." Until today, I as a holder of a Jordanian passport can not travel to Israel or Palestine and have my passport stamped at an Israeli port or else I will not be granted entrance to any other Arabic country ,, except Egypt! That's all missed up. But if I carry a foreign (non-arab or western) passport then I may go anywhere I please, and the same goes to my children which is really what pisses me off! Anyway .. this is still a music site.

For all the info and links. Barak .. I missed it! :( thnx anyway, maybe next time around. ur rite about peace after Egypt tour, the Peace treaty was signed in Washington, DC, US, on March 26, 1979 (did some research:) a yr after the show but then Anwar Al Sadat was assasinated in '91 also as a result and it goes on n on. I think the situation now has gone beyond that in '78 and it will take more than a live concert to create peace between Israel and the ME specially now that Persians are involved, hmm, i dont know much poli tics but I call for puttin' down the weapons from all sides, stop the killing on all sides. right? then .. dream about couragable leadres with dignity and simply .. 2 eyes. Mr.Pid! it's been a while my friend and I drowned in work and makin trouble and reacting to it, thts all i can say. What a generous offer re. the BFA cover, i'm humbled but I will only accept it if I see you in person someday :) but for now all I want is a chance to see the Arabic translation along with the other languages, it just gives me a sense of pride and excitement. Thnx Marye for the archive cover links. I think the cover Art is exceptional! amazing graphics (I am a graphic designer BTW). Love n Peace. Nedal

BFA in Arabic

The original vinyl release came with the lyrics in English, Hebrew, Arabic and Persian as an insert. I just happen to have a copy of same. If you haven't seen that ikoiko, I could hook you up. Seems like that was part of the original Artists Intent to begin with. PM me your address if you'd like, and it's yours! And it just might be a good candidate for inclusion in the archives here, if the site owners have their hands on a good digital image... Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

The radio - marathon

It's happening on July 23rd (i made a mistake on my previous post) @ 10pm Tel-Aviv (gmt+3). Even though the talking would be in hebrew, there'll be plenty of good music for you all non hebrew speakers to dig. Right after the Dead played Egypt there was peace between Israel and Egypt. Too bad they couldn't tour in the entire middle-east... That might have solved some more problems.

Inshallah = if God wants so ..

Help me understand the true meaning of Blues for Allah - Inshallah .. i am arabic and i understand literally what it means but ... i need o know the circumstances, motive .. i know all about the background of the song and the assassination that happened but was the song written because of that incident? and why hasn't it been widely spread like all the other songs on the same album? any thoughts on this will really be welcomed and kindly thanked for. one last thing .. anyone has the cover of the album with Arabic names of songs?iko - peace

I don't read Hebrew (or Arabic for that matter) but as I interpret the page at the second link, it's on the 23rd, i.e. the day after tomorrow. I encourage those more conversant in the local language to tell us what's up.

Yeah it is an amazing...well magical place. It is worth the visit. Really bug Jazz scene actually. Plus lots of east- west music coming through.

Hello Marye (and anyone who can read this), how are you? I became a Dead fan after my first show in March1992 (@ The Omni in Atlanta). I am American, but I moved to Egypt about 6+ years ago. I didn’t have the pleasure of seeing the Dead when they played @ the Pyramids, but I have the CD/DVD that came out in 2008. (If you have seen it, I love the extra footage of some of them climbing one of the pyramids ;) ) Do you know (currently) any “heads” in the Middle East or Egypt? I am doing my best to make it to the upcoming 'Fare Thee Well' shows. Are you coming? (I know, that may be a silly question ;) )

1971 RESEARCH PROJECT

Good morning rockers!!!! As many of you may or may not know, I am a bit of a “1971 Dead fanatic”. I have taken on a slightly ambitious project, documenting all 1971 Dead shows, the end result of which I hope will combine numerous “facts/factoids” about shows with recollections of folks who actually attended Dead shows in 1971. In order to accomplish this, I need the help of the Dead fan community. ALL contributions will be properly and specifically credited. If you attended ANY shows in 1971 and have ANY recollections to share, PLEASE consider participating. Please PM me for details. While of course I’m happy to hear from anybody who attended “classic 71 shows” such as Port Chester, Fillmore East, Harding Theater, Felt Forum, etc., I’m particularly interested in hearing from folks who may have attended lesser known, “out of the way” shows, such as: 1/21/71 Davis 1/22/71 Lane Community College 3/5/71 Oakland 4/14/71 Bucknell 4/18/71 Cortland 6/21/71 Chateau d’Herouville 8/4/71 Terminal Island 10/19/71 Northrop Auditorium 11/11/71 Atlanta 11/17/71 Albuquerque In addition, if ANYBODY out there has “paper ephemera” related to 1971 shows, Please consider participating.
