    1982-04-10 Jerry solo acoustic

    Hi Everyone-
Its been a while since I started a vine so I thought I'd get this one going.
I forget all the particulars of this Jerry show but off the top of my head, here's a brief summary. Jerry and John Kahn were doing a brief tour together (just the two of them) and Kahn fell ill. Hence, Jerry acoustic solo for one night only! Included here are the early show and the two sets of the late show that Jerry played. This night was a real treat for anyone who attended.
The quality of these audio recordings is good, not great like the recent sbds we've been vining. And also, more troubling is the Rueben and Cherise encore of the second show that fades out. Every time I listen to it, I get annoyed about it, but being a completist, or in this case, partial completist, I'm going to include it here. Despite those facts, I consider this show to be a must have.

    Early show:
    Deep Elem Blu

The Dead were playing the Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead on Long Island, NY. It was 3 shows over Easter. They took a break between the 2nd & last show. Jerry wanted to play a show & he ended up at the Capital Theater in NJ. I believe news 1st spread by word of mouth & then by a local radio station (I lived in the area at the time). I don't remember if John was sick but he did tour with him later on his solo runs. Jerry was amazing as he usually was, The crowd was just as amazing. I remember we became his rhythm section at times. The different sections (i believe there were 3) I've seen Jerry many times in the JGB format & w/ John Kahn but this show just sparkled. He was so nervous at 1st that if you said BOO, he would have probably jumped out of his skin. As he played he got more comfortable & really started to get into it. By the end of the night the audience just wanted to give him a big warm hug (& of course we did). I was outside the venue after the show was over just hanging around & out he pops from a side door w/ the famous briefcase in hand (another day at the office). This was before he put on so much weight. I'm not a big guy myself, but he was smaller than I was at the time. I said hi & he said hello & then ducked into the waiting limo. We actually were "followed" back to Long Island by his limo as we drove back home. Kinda cool, like sorta having him riding shotgun w/ us. Anyway, back to the CD's, I have the complete ending on my copies. Recording is good, not great but listenable. Not sure how you guys go about "seeding" I just popped onto the forums the other day (just poking around). I was given these at last years 10KLF at the Wharf Rat table. Thanks to the donor!

I remember that show. Jerry was so nervous when he came out. (4th row) I remember Jerry, his guitar, a stool to sit on, a stool for his cigs & a glass of water. Nuthin else!!! Amazing night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, I'm sitting here & just remembered someone turning me onto copies of this show on cd... I just happened to stumble on them again. Gotta check the quality. I'll get back to ya. I have both early & late shows... off to the deck for checking. Franko
