Technical Problems - Streaming Malfunctions

If the Tapers' Section or Grateful Dead Hour streams (or any other streams that may appear from time to time) aren't working for you, please post here. In some cases, your fellow Heads will come to your assistance. In others, the Rhino techs may have a fix for the problem. In others, we may have a can't-get-there-from-here issue, but really, we'll do our best. Thanks!

Mono

Hi

I've posted this a few times in the specific Tapers Section forums but I haven't had any suggestions.

Every clip in every Tapers Section since Jan 28-Feb 3 plays in mono for me. I don't believe this is a streaming problem per se because all the clips from before this week play in stereo and all GDH streams play in stereo.

For a while assumed that it was intentional and just a result of trying to reduce the size of the streaming files but I've come to doubt this.

In this week's Tapers Section another user pointed out that all the streams are in mono, however, another user said that the streams are stereo. Evidently there is some setting/file/programme that I don't have, need to get rid of or need to change that others do have, have removed or have changed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's a real shame if there isn't something I can do because the mono reduction really wrecks a lot of the clips and I'm starting to give up trying to listen to any because the mono, combined with an already not-very-high quality track means some of the streams are almost unlistenable.

Any help would be fantastic.

I don't know the answer, but I'll make inquiries.

Thanks Marye

Thanks for looking into it. I should have brought it up earlier but, as I said, I assumed it was intentional. Perhaps it is...? It could be something to do with the clip player upgrade that happened a while ago.

the clips are (or should be) stereo, but he's looking into this.

mono again

I get the stream in mono also. I'm on a Mac, OS 10.4.11, using Firefox 2.0.0.14. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this music really needs stereo, many of the recordings have phase issues that mess with the mono sound somethin' terrible.

okay, I'll pass this along

just for grins--folks with the mono issue, what kind of Internet connection do you have?

Hi Marye I have this same

Hi Marye

I have this same problem on different computers, with different connections BUT my main computer/connection is ADSL 512kb/s. I get mono in either browser (IE 7 or Firefox).

I definitely do NOT have any problems with the pre January 28 streams, nor with the GDHour streams.

Thanks again for persisting with this.

Hi Marye, I also have ADSL

Hi Marye,

I also have ADSL 512kb/s, and have the same lack of problems with the pre 1/28 streams. Thanks for helping.

I'm a bozo here, but hey, it's the weekend so for the moment I'm what you've got. To refine the focus a bit more.

Take the Playing in the Band clip. Are we talking, you're only getting one channel, or, you're getting two but they're identical?

I just listened to it with the headphones, and I could be persuaded of the latter, but I'm definitely getting two channels.

I've got an old-school 384kbps SDSL. And 2.0.0.12 on a G4 ibook.

In short, say more about the symptoms here. And like I say, this is not my field, so bear with me!
