I saw John Belushi there that night....
He looked really pale and clammy. I didn't recognize him at first. He was gone soon after....
I was a student at UCLA. It was my 3rd show. I hadn't even the slightest clue what was really going on with the really long songs that I never heard on the radio....
make 'em shine
The thing that stood out for me about this one (other than pal John dancing around on shrooms) was Stella Blue, normally the quiet song, was so loud that it was literally shaking the rafters. At the end, Jerry punched a triumphant fist in the air, obviously very proud of a well played show.
Final Pauley show, was it not?
I had a seat so high up that my head was literally touching the ceiling from the top row -- but I didn't care. What a show. And the place was on fire. AND A FINE TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!!!
Trippin' Basketballs! Great Show from start to finish!
Hats off to Bill Graham! My buddy from high school and I went to this show together. The party started at his house in Bel-Air and we drove over to UCLA and parked near the pavillion. There were people partying everywhere on campus and the dealers were broadcasting. I think I remember one guy had a sign with a laundry list of things he was selling...and there was a lot of good LSD being dropped (blotter with the planet Saturn that had come from Berkeley). the crowd was a mix of deadheads, college kids, and L.A. party types who came for the freak show.
I remember joining a big spirit circle of deadheads on the lawn right before they opened the doors. There was long wait inside the pavillion for the show to start, but they were playing cool tunes and there were a bunch of beach balls and big balloons bouncing around the crowd....and then the show was incredible! The band was on fire, trippin' with the crowd I'm pretty sure, and it was one of those times when the crowd and the band were totally in sync.
Jerry had recently made the move to Stage Left and we were lucky to be in the front row of the first Loge on Jerry's side with a perfect view of the band and the crowd.
Opened with a truly funky Shakedown Street into a rocking New Minglewood Blues. The old ultra slow version of Friend of the Devil, a fabulous Bird Song and a stand alone I Know You Rider into a hot Estimated Prophet were particular highlights. Bill and Micky had started building The Beast and were getting into "Rhythym Devils Play River Music" and you can hear it in the Drums. Check out the call and response during Not Fade Away and the crowd clapping along, Jerry feelin' it during Stella Blue, and the jammin' Sugar Magnolia finale. Brokedown Palace (referring to the venue) for the encore was a perfect ending. After the show the party continued on campus for quite awhile before we headed out.

Wow.Great post. I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real hard work to make a great article… but I put things off too much and never seem to get started. Thanks though.I'm common rail come from sensor .
