Great way to wake up this morning. THAT Dark Star, hearing the boys do the national anthem... Thanks! Please play # 504 next week!

I had been trying to avoid listening to any '73 so that I will be in a complete frenzy by the time the Winterland box arrives. But here I see a '73 Dark Star and can't help myself from clicking on "Listen Now." Oh well, it is such a beautiful version that I feel no guilt at all. Besides, there's still another month to go, right?

Forgive me but when twin passions cross paths I get a little frothy. This GDH clunks the foreheads of baseball and the GD together better than Moe ever did to Larry and Shemp. 1) Being not unfamiliar with the experiece of rattling around an old, east coast minor league baseball stadium in summer's full flower, I've always enjoyed the letter read at the top of this broadcast. That environment is faithfully rendered in the vivid account featured. I loved listening to it again. 2) Despite Roosevelt Stadium being the home grounds for the Jersey City Giants of the Triple-A International League (so named as the league at one time boasted among it's members the Havana Sugar Kings and the Toronto Maple Leafs), Major League games were also played in this stadium. Across the 1956 and 1957 campaigns the Brooklyn Dodgers played a total of 15 games there, one game against each of their seven National League rivals -the Cinncinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Braves and of course New York Giants- both years. (It's fifteen games and not fourteen as for some reason they played the Phillies twice there in '57). 3) In addition to the comment about old architecture and respectabliity, etc. etc. I've always also enjoyed the Marx Brothers moment before the Anthem when somebody asked Jerry if he was a Giants fan (this was the Giants 1993 Candlestick Park home opener against the Florida Marlins; the first road game in the Marlin's history; 1993 was that franchises inaugural season). He replied that he wouldn't say he was a huge Giants fan. Weir can be heard off mike saying, "I wouldn't say he was the hugest Giants fan I've ever seen either." High hilarity all 'round. 4) Oh, and the Dark Star! Oh my.

My kids will be so psyched to hear the boys singing the anthem. I have pics of Jerry at the game I got in a trade with some guy in Oakland years ago, Poor Jerry, the pics are from behind him and he looks so annoyed the guy is taking pics of him. I use that bad architecture and old whores quote all the time... thanks david!!

Thanks David for the Roosevelt 73' piece. I have always dug that set from my collection and this bit reminded me why.That Dark Star is out there for sure. Their rendition of the national anthem was right on the money. I remember them doing this but don't think I ever actually heard it until now. Plus the interviews are hilarious. Kudos for putting this up there. It was really cool to hear them pull this off. Thanks again.

I missed the live broadcast of the boys singing The Defence of Fort M'Henry so this was nice to hear after so long. I loved the crowd reaction. I, too, felt the chill. Also, I have a casette tape of an old DTTW broadcast that I have been listening to a lot this week in the car (do they still make casette players for the car?) that has the 8/1/73 Dark Star > El Paso > Eyes > Dew. The Eyes > Dew are surely worthy of note. Interesting that I cannot listen to live webcasts at work, e.g., of DTTW on KPFA, but I can listen to archived shows.

But i just love that one drummer sound sometimes.-Do lord, deliver our kind.-
