Take a deep breath, big guy... First off, the Winterland Box Set is $100 because of its packaging, as well. That's one package for 3 shows. If you have one package and one insert for all 21 shows (GOTTA have February), I bet they could package it, going minimalistic on the design/labels and sell it for $450. Yup. The whole dang 1990 tour for under a nickel. I WOULD pay that, assuming it sounded like everything else that has been released from that year (WOANet & Dozin). SICK STUFF, BRO.... Breakouts of Loose Lucy, Easy To Love You, Revolution (and the final version), BT Wind, Hey Jude, The Weight, the last Believe It Or Not.... Not only selectionwise, but these guys were simply tighter than they'd ever been (with this lineup) and there's SO many skull-crushing jams. Inasmuchas I love the 72-73 era, the sound quality on any of the recordings are simply not on the same level as what we get from the late 80s-90 - if not just for the sake of technology. Spring 1990, to me, was the height of the band....this is where the whole "taste is subjective" stuff comes in, of course.... I liked Brent 100-fold over Keith. I love Keith - don't get me wrong, but he didn't have the talent or power of Brent (or the B3!!!). The kid took this band to a whole new level and they peaked in Spring 90 - Summer 90 was good, but not AS good as the Spring. Fall 89 is the only other tour that came close, IMO. If I were allowed in the design lab, I bet I could get this bad boy to the people for under $400 if they let me at it!!! ;) ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

    Spring '90?!?!???????
Let's see, 18 shows on the Spring 90 tour, not including the Feb shows, at $100 for every 3 shows (the price of the Winterland '73 box), makes $600 for the tour. Are you freaking nuts?!?!?!? You would pay that for THIS tour? 1990 is a good year, considering the years around it, but c'mon. If Rhino/the Dead release anything from the "later years," I sure hope it is an individual show or a Road Trips (with a bunch of Brent and newer Jerry songs and NOT an attempt to recreate a real show). The number of requests for "later years" shows always surprises me. Jerry's creativity, sense of adventure and skill began a steady decline after 1977. Although they don't announce sales figures, I would be surprised (yet again) if the best selling releases were not those from 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1977 (not coincidentally, the best 4 yrs IMO). I vote for more from those years, and especially 5/12/77 (Lemieux has posted excerpts in the Taper's Section so it is in the vault and a SBD does NOT circulate) and 6/4/77. No offense to anyone.

If we're talkin' BOX sets, I'd sure spring for SPRING 1990 - THE TOUR. The highest point of musicality during my short run of touring from 87-95.....THIS was it for me. Brent & Jerry riffing back & forth with amazing grace...Bobby cutting through with incredible licks...Phil SUPER tight and the drummers were en fuego. To me, it didn't get any better. ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

I would love to see a box set of complete shows from 71, & 74. Just have the dead family vote on there favorite shows from those years, then release a box set of HDCD's of the shows that had the highest votes (assuming those reels are in the vault of course) Basically MORE "71" & "74" releases, please!!!

I'd really love to hear a Rhino release (a la "Legion of Mary") of Jerry & Merl's Reconstruction band. I only have one concert (6.17.79, Palo Alto) of theirs on tape, and the levels are a little off (real heavy on horns, low on Jerry except his solos) but man it is SMOKIN'. So, given the high quality and care that Rhino put into the Legion of Mary (HDCD, no less) I'd be floored to see the Reconstruction band given a little love. What do you fellas think?

The Nassau 1990 run, full shows box set would be excellent. Brent was peakin, and you can feel the band rising up with him, full on to the moment, and just listen to boys on The Weight and try not cry, tears of complete joy and profound sadness. the more you listen the more you hear, and the less you fear. They will always be right there entangled in our hearts and minds. How wonderful. peace,pk

A compilation (maybe not a box set) of live music that guest artists appeared on would be cool.

Can we discuss some sort of ‘81 Europe box set or releases? Some real gems in there and ‘81 is soooooo underrated!

How about a 1974 Wall of sound box set.
Or an Alaska 1980 box.

A couple days ago on Sirius TIGDH David Lemieux played some tunes from the 7-1-1973 Universal Amphitheater show. I was fortunate to see 2 of 3 of this 3-night run 6-29, 6-30, 7-1-1973 and was wondering if it could possibly be considered for a future small box release. The venue was brand new and still a virgin open-air outdoor amphitheater was since converted to an indoor venue. The GD was THE very first act to play there that weekend and covered a lot of the newer & as-yet unreleased material. Frank Sinatra was the "Official" first artist doing a week of shows a few days later but the Dead had already christened it in a spectacular way.
This was a short notice ticket sale event that as I recall was only listed locally 2 or 3 weeks before. I went to the box office on day of Saturday show and scored 2 front row seats on piano side of the stage with a great view of Garcia & Weir and some great interplay.
Should definitely be given a listen.

End 2023 with Watkins Glen release.

2024 box set: 1974

2025 box set: MASSIVE 1985, and give us working class folk enough notice to pull the money together for it, thanks in advance.

As always a crispy Summer 82' box set someday.

The end of the Summer Tour in '91 was hot, hot, hot! So how about a box with the DVD/Blu-Ray of the 6/22/91 Chicago show, boxed up with the following three shows--6/24 & 6/25/91 (Sandstone--both shows have been played on SiriusXM) and 6/28/91 (Mile High--which was on a GD Hour)?

The three shows at the Richfield Coliseum (9/4-6/91) to kick off the Fall Tour were pretty dang hot as well . . .

Thanks for your consideration!

Especially for the later years, but you could even be more creative for lesser tapped years like 68 or 86.

it seems to work for the CDs why not try it with vinyl? The pressing plants backlog has gotten way better why not offer 4 box sets a year (just an idea could be more/less) This would be way cooler than just something else for Record store day. Made to order type deal...this way the fans get what we want and no worries about investing in 10000 box sets that may not sell out. Id be all about it...anyone else?

With next year being the 50th anniversary of 1974 why not release the 2005 Grateful Dead Movie 5 cd Soundtrack as a vinyl box set? I’d also love to see the Ladies and Gentleman the Grateful Dead 4 cd box set come out on vinyl. Both would be big vinyl box sets but I’d dish out the cash for it. Both come from 16 track recordings and would sound excellent on vinyl and look great next to my other GD box sets

Is this ever going to be released on vinyl? Further, is there an optimal place to check for upcoming vinyl releases? Much thanks!

June/July 1985.

Dave was quite enthusiastic about summer 85 in his office chat, yet picked Frost for DaP49.
So hopefully he’s saving the summer shows for a Box.
6-27,28,30
7-1,2,13,14
Maybe a few more since some of them will fit on 2 CD’s.

I think the Tower Theater shows from Upper Darby, PA in June of 1976 would make a killer box set! Whether it’s a box set or a Dave’s picks or whatever, I think they deserve an official GD release! Thanks!

Hey rockers!!!!

Next box? Early 1969. From the OSF reels. Will include Vegas from March and the Avalon run from early April. Unless they want to hold Vegas for single release and include the Ark shows instead. Or maybe the February Philly shows? Heck, make it a mega mega box!!!!!

I have no definite talent or trade, and how I stay alive is largely a matter of magic......

Doc
You must learn to be still in the midst of activity and to be vibrantly alive in repose......

That's it exactly Doc. Just whats needed for a 69 box, after the FW supernova, shows you note, Avalon, Ark, et al first half of the year represent the mature, fully flowered primal phase. Fortunate to have some as downloads, audio issues would resolve with a most welcome update by Norman and crew. Time to revisit FW early June series, been a while.

8/12-14/79 would make a lovely mini-box.
Affordable and concise.
You could make me and HF very happy.
Cheers
And as RYXS suggests add the Oakland shows before that and you have a 5 show box.
