I'd love to have this one and I guess I am not alone. I've joined the comunity too late to buy it first time around, and the prices on Amazon are way above what I'd spend.I really hope some one will consider a re-issue of that box for all of us who missed it.

I think it would be awesome if a series of Cds featuring the first live performances of our favorite dead songs was released. Such as the first live performance of sugar magnolia or estimated prophet. The first sugar mag is slower, very rough and slightly out of tune at some points but it is definatly a gem and I'm sure the other first performances are precious as well.

Probably another Winterland release is store
I have a feeling that the next box set we see will be another three run cycle at Winterland, just like '73 and '77. This could very well be 12/10 -> 12/12/72 or maybe even 02/22 -> 02/24/74. I'm really leaning towards the latter since the band seemed much tighter on that occassion. Having said that, I really hope this isn't the case. Four box sets from Winterland - '73, '77, GD Movie Soundtrack, and the hypothetical '72 or '74? That's just too much. No matter how great the music was, no matter how classic the arena, another box set from the 1970s at Winterland would really pigeonhole the band further as only being heard/experienced via recordings from this particular era and this particular arena. I already feel like the catalog is top heavy in terms of this exact categorization. I'm with the other posters who strongly advise Rhino to release a run of shows (ANYTHING!) from the 1980s or even early 1990s. Sure, I'd like to see a box set from a run of shows in '93 or '94, but that's not going to happens because the veterans get depressed when they hear this material compared to the hey-day even though the younger generation, like me, knew nothing but this! Like others here, Without a Net, Dozin', Truckin', and the soon-to-be released Crimson resonate most strongly with me and often spend weeks at a time in my CD Changer.

1981 is the genuine lost gem year. The vibe still felt fresh in general, Brent was in his prime, and Jerry too--his playing was just spectacular, and his major mid-80s vocal and lyrical problems were still a good ways off. I am aware that, unfortunately, the soundboards from the year are not at all complete in the vault. But I have read about the tours, and it sounds like there were MANY truly superb shows. The 1981 EUROPE TOUR sounds like an especially hot run. Maybe even hot enough to give Europe '72 some real competition. ... What say you??? A box set concept doesn't get much better than that!!! Even if it were to have less-than-stellar sound quality, I'd be drooling for it. Oops...I just noticed, I'm already drooling for it!

You guys need to get serious about releasing a couple of 1973 box sets. The begining of the year is great , but by the time Sept, Oct, Nov tours it is absolutely "sick' as the younger generation would say.

I, too, would love to see this released as a box set. The Fillmore West shows from '69 are great, however highlights from these shows are already on Spotify. I purchased the Buffalo 5-9-77 box set recently, and have been loving it, partially because it isn't available on streaming sites. More of these shows on vinyl, such as the April 21-23 run in Boston, would be a great addition to any collection.

Also, can some (or all) of the Dave's Picks please be released on vinyl? I don't understand why those issues are limited to CD only. Anyone that can shed some light on why this is this case?

We need a box set of London March and October 1981. But if only one group of shows is possible, I vote for March: 3/20, 21, 23, and 24. These are loose, inspired, interesting, and lovely shows. They open the second set of 4/23 with Bird Song for heaven's sake.

We also need Brent's first tour. If all 9 shows can't happen, then please release 5/5, 7, 8, and 9. 5/7 in particular is ferocious, despite a rather unspectacular setlist.

And then there's Texas '72. Deep and dark. And essential.

I believe SBDs exist, if the 30 Days of Dead releases are any indication.

I would LOVE a box set from ‘71 or the early 80’s. Any part of the ‘71 really, although Oct-Dec are some of my all time favorite shows. Such energy, and you can hear the band develop as the year goes on. It is simply amazing - the youthful energy, breaking new ground, familiar tunes, it’s all in ‘71! If not ‘71, then give is something we do not have much of, early 80’s!!!! Anything ‘81-‘84, but certainly the European tour in ‘81 seems intriguing.

I’d love anything’73 or ‘74. I also think an Ark box would be killer. As a younger fan who missed out, I’d also love it if some or all of the ‘72 cds were simply restocked/reissued for the 50th anniversary.

David Lemieux... if you are listening...

The next perfect box set should be the full run of the eight 1980 Radio City Music Hall Shows from October 1980. A 24 CD Boxed Set. "Radio Daze - Eight from 1980"

Yes, some of this is on Dead Set but these shows (like the Warfield run a week or so before it) were fantastic. Good quality, previously unreleased recordings. Crisp, upbeat singing and playing both acoustic and electric, and the run culminated on Friday 10/31/1980 - Halloween

Think about the time the Rhino people would have creating the packaging and artwork for this one...

Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but supposedly the RCMH tapes were reused elsewhere and thus, supposedly, there are no complete shows.

Multitracks, shows close to, if not as good as spring 90…what are we waiting for??
Smithers, release the multis!

I’ve even done half the work checking out shows!

10/14/89: ! Think this is the second best of the Burn shows (#1 10/16/89)
10/15/89: ? Possible, depending on box size?

10/18/89: only tour Shakedown. China-Rider, Terrapin
10/19/89: H/S/F, Bucket, Death Don’t
10/20/89: Hey Pocky, 1st of 2 California Earthquake, Brokedown

10/23/89: different set list, final Cali EQ, ATTICS

10/25/89: decent show,

6 or 7 solid shows, and did we mention MULTIS!!!!
Perhaps toss in part of 9/29 as filler?

9/4/91: not as sexy a set list as the other nights, but perhaps the best played night of Richfield

MSG: still working on researching these. Say 3 of 8 shows not out yet?

Bean Town:
9/24/91: 3rd pick
9/22/91: 2nd pick
9/26/91: perhaps my top pick of the tour!

Oakland: 2 or 3 depending on box size All shows good, but,
10/31/91 is a MUST!

Don’t let the 9 fool ya, these are solid, well played shows with some prime Bruce!

2/15/73: 73 Dark Star and Here Comes SS
10/25/73: same plus mind left body jam..
2/4/79: good look at final K&D days
12/3/81: this is way hotter than that Boulder show!
6/24/83: good outing from overlooked tour

1968: say 4-7 discs of shows, even if partials or short shows?
1969: 4/4, 5, 6/69 and 4/21, 22, 23/69.

Not sure why the horn shows have the stigma they do? Probably taper bias BS?
Agree wouldn’t want to listen to the whole tour in a row (though I did and really loved it)
Would make a nice 3 show box.
Wake could be argued to be one of the best studio outings they did. Jazz Dead, come on!
So how can we not have a historical document of such a cool and unique part of Dead’s evolution?

9/11/73: 73 great show with Dark Star and 4 of the new songs off Wake. Must Have!

9/15/73 or 9/17/73: both are great and have 6 newbies off of Wake!
Use one for box and the other one for the bonus for Wake of the Flood 50th!

9/21/73 or 9/26/73: pick one to illustrative how much things changed from start to end of tour??

6/14/85: Greek! 1st Keep On, Dew Second opener. (Depending on size and if you consider as summer tour?)

6/22/85: ?? not the best of the tour but fun Keep On and figure should have at least 1 for each venue?

6/25/85: Day Tripper! Perhaps best show of tour?

6/27/85: Toeeee ga! Crazy show

6/28/85: one of my all time @ Dews! Fun first set with 3 consecutive JG tunes! Great TMNS. Cool early Tom Thumbs.

6/30/85: one of the best Shakedowns EVER! Must Have!
Cryptical: should have some historical record…

7/1/85: Scorching Scarlet/Fire!

7/2/85: ? Depending on size

7/13/85: Insane 1st set, Cryptical, maybe use part of or as filler?

6/16/85: ? Maybe, filler? Bueller! 1st Cryptical…

ALPINE VALLEY MUSIC THEATRE (2 shows)
RIVER BEND MUSIC CENTER
BLOSSOM MUSIC CENTER
SARATOGA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
HERSHEY PARK STADIUM
MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION (2 shows)
PITTSBURGH CIVIC ARENA

If memory serves, this was the LAST summer tour that did not primarily consist of sports stadium shows. To me, that makes it the last true summer tour! Every show I heard on tape from this tour sounded like it was excellent.

What a wonderful box set this would be! Absolutely number 1 on my wish list!

I got the dates by looking at all of 1985 in the archive. But when I went to the actual show page for the first few shows, they were a day later than the page for the whole year. Anyway, tremendous tour. Just listened to an old soundboard of one of the shows. Just great. The last summer "shed" tour?

If they could put the Greek Theater and Ventura runs into a box set, it would be a dream. Some of the best shows of the year, of the Brent era even, are on that tour, especially 7/13, 7/15, and 7/22

Many great shows, but these seem to be the best overall without too many repeats and 7 shows seems like a good size, especially since there’s no reels to purchase and/or restore. Might make a tad more value oriented?

9/6/91
9/8/91
9/16/91*
9/22/91
9/24/91
9/26/91*
10/31/91*

Favorite/must haves*
7 Shows
66 one time songs: really good selection!
16 Repeats
6 Threepeats
(Not including D&S)

The three peats are: Dar Star, Attics, Let It Grow, Saint, Stranger, and Good Lovin’

The repeats are: Spoonful, Dark Star Jam, Wang Dang, Candyman, Maggie’s, Standing on Moon, Last Time, Stella, Samson, Eyes, TOO, Bertha, All Over Now, Heaven’s Door, Minglewood, and A&A. Hey, no matter how you slice em, Bobs ALWAYS gonna have repeats!

9/17 and other Oakland and Richfield are probably worthy, but then you start getting into more repeats and perhaps too big a box?

Your Welcome ; )
Bet this would sell out ridiculously fast!

Oh Yeah! Kudos to Dave Lemieux for Dave's Picks 43, 1969. Great stuff, especially Discs 1 and 3.
Never thought much of Dancing in the Streets, but this early version, before the disco era, got my attention. Nice, really nice. Of the 2 Dark Stars, I prefer the version on Disc 3. Made it to my personal 5 Greatest Dark Stars of all time (GDSOAT). Dave can be on my Greatest Product Release Guys of all time (GPRGOAT) if he would release:
The Ark, Boston 4-21, 4-22, 4-23 1969 ( 3 night show).

March 8th 2023 marks the 50th year since his passing and I hope to see a commemorative release. If not a box set covering all of his years with the band then at least a stand alone release of his last performances pulled from the Europe ‘72 recordings (they have already been remastered and Rhino has proven itself more then willing to dip their bucket in that well). As Garcia himself said without Pigpen there would not have been a Grateful Dead.

Asking for the Ark box is almost like a running joke on this site. The shows are exceptionally well played and sound great for this era. Plus, a three show box set would make for a much more affordable and appealing experience, especially in this economy.

Part 2 box is 6/22 thru 7/1

Plangentized and Normanized.

12-4-73 complete
12-6-73 complete
12-19-73 complete
