So…if you’re still interested, I have a box of 64 tapes ready to ship after culling the herd. All Dead, mostly 80’s. I’ll even pay postage, just want to see them go to a good home. Let me know, but I am not very tech savvy, (it was hard for me to even get to where I could post this), so please be patient.

You can probably get an estimate of shipping costs by measuring the approximate weight and size of the box they would fit into. Naturally, as you say, the destination is also a factor.

The size of the final package will determine the price scale which increases in steps by weight.
There will be a price scale for domestic shipping, and different price scales depending on overseas regional codes. The codes often seem to be determined as much by postal infrastructure as they are by proximity.

These rates should all be posted on the website of whatever delivery service you choose, be it USPS, FedEx, or whatever. These days some services have better coverage in different regions, while another is better for a different region.

For example, when I ship stuff to the US, I use a courier service, something like UPS, but when I send things to Europe, it's better to use a Post Office product.

For another example, back when I was trading blank tapes and postage for someone to dub shows for me, I put the tape in an envelope, weighed it, and bought the return postage for that envelope before including both the stamped return evenlope and the tape into second package, which, of course, also had to have postage. So, if all you're asking for is postage, that's totally reasonable. The only hold up is that no one knows how much the postage will be yet. It's hard to put your hand up and say, "Me," under those circumstances.

Another concern for international shipping is whether eyebrows will be raised at customs inspection, but there is no way to predict that. Essentially the tapes would be a gift with no commercial value.

I suppose collectors more knowledgable than myself could probably guesstimate the weight based simply on the number of tapes, but if you can somehow weigh the boxes, a ballpark figure should be just a few clicks away. Then, if someone from Kansas, or someone from Germany, or like myself, from Japan, or wherever, shows interest you can quickly refer to the chart and have an idea how much they should expect to send to you. You don't want to settle on a price, and then find out that isn't enough to cover shipping, right?

It also saves you packing everything up, taking it to the post office, and then having the buyer back out because postage was far more than expected. I reckon people would like to know what they're getting into before going forward. Personally, I imagine it's gonna be more than I can afford right now. Can't spend money I don't have, regardless of the quality of your collection. However, at this point, even if I was seriously considering your offer, imagination is the only thing I have to go on. See what I'm saying?

I completely agree with you, these vintage tapes could still provide a lot of joy to someone.
A lot of people still listen to tapes.
It would be a travesty to have them end up in the garbage.

It is over 300 tapes; closer to 400.

I would like a decent home for this carefully collected batch of tapes.

I don't know how much shipping would cost as it is a large collection from the late 1960's to the early 1990's. I suppose it depends on where you are located. I am in California north of San Francisco.

There are JGB tapes in the collection as well.

A lot of effort went into this and money too.

If you cannot pay the amount necessary to ship it with the Casio cases that they are in (its about 6 of them full), I don't know what to suggest.

    Thank you for your interest.

Pretty quiet around here, I see.

At the moment I'm extremely short on spare change for shipping, and raise that the question of international customs' interest in, or perhaps ignorance of such content. I do find myself salivating, but ya can't spend what ya ain't got.

Hopefully you can hang on to them until a more stable enthusiast turns up.

Roughly how many tapes are there?
What do you reckon domestic shipping will be?

Might be easier to find a taker if they know how much postage will be needed.

A lot of people probably filled up while the Internet Archive was still open trading on all formats.
I for one still have a tape deck, sadly didn't binge on the Archive when I could have, and can't afford the string of limited edition official releases that are so tantalizing.

    Good luck!

Just bought a cassette for the purpose of listening to the Grateful Dead, more specifically live shows. Whether it's soundboard or otherwise, I'd love to hear from anyone looking to carry on the tradition of tape trading. Awaiting some purchased tapes and looking to sort them out and find which ones are good quality. Get ahold of me if you're interested. I'd love to share the wealth

Greetings Brothers and Sisters, Have gone through many cycles of trading over the years.... Am at a place where I have recently gifted and released most of the CD's I've owned as well as much of the mp3 quality GD that has come along in the digital realm. I now am focusing on cultivating some sweet GD on Hard Drive in .wav format and am seeking SBD shows in the 1987 - 1991 range (1987 - 1989 most wanted) in a higher quality format. Those years were some of the highlights of my personal GD experience and would love to relive some of those sweet musical times... So, was wondering if there was someone out there that is up for a Hard Drive swap? If so private message me and we can get into more details including some of what I have to offer... What is most desirable is to find someone that has a nice chunk of music (500GB) to offer vs. individual shows as I have quite a lot of high quality GD from other years + Furthur years I can offer in trade. I would to send some out to you all who are looking. I am going to PM the last 2 people looking for tapes. I am going to try and get a list together. These are either low gen AUD or SBD. Right now I have 1993 and 1995 available. This is a work in progress. I also have some 1970's up for grabs as well as some Betty Boards. PM me what you are looking for and hopefully I can find a new home for some of these. Tapes FREE, you only pay shipping. Thanks Deadtaper

The Dead played there in the 60's, I saw a copy on Ebay years ago. It would later become a Burlesque House (Tom Waits mentions it in 2 diff. songs) and I went there a few times in my youth. Do you by chance have a copy of this show?

I am looking for some specific shows and could send you a list - or you could find the list on: www.deadtapecollector.tumblr.com My email address is on that site, and I check that more frequently so PM me if interested in setting something up. So nice to see people who still want to trade tapes here. It's such a nostalgic throwback to a time when people used to trade tapes without a conditions or throwing in favors. Not caring so much about the quality, just wanting the show for whatever reason. Believe it or not it's the first time since 2007 since I've seen it. Hoo-ray for a simpler, more innocent time - just 25 years ago from performance to collection.

I haven't thought'bout "The Tapers" in years...I gave up the cassette deck decades ago...But I will NEVER forget all the microphones on poles in the audience... Back in the 70's I vaguely remember the Hells Angels working their way to the front of the crowd and pulling the batteries out of some poor dudes cassette machine and warning him about a few things...Apparently this Cat was like "Mr TAPER" or some name like that...and he had been warned before...I'm thinking Rosevelt Stadium New Jersey...The show after the Big Rain out cancellation...(Now that was a bad scene daddio...LOL) Nothing like hitch hiking while trippin...OR is it Trippin while hitch hiking??? and discovered boxes and boxes of tapes that had been thrown in there more or less at random a decade or so ago. It's going to take several bursts of energy to sort them all out. I also found two reels, which I have no idea why I have them, as I have never had a reel-to-reel. One of the Dead at the Hollywood Palladium, one of mixed Dead/Airplane stuff. The only thing I can think is I must have grabbed them at a yard sale, or someone else did thinking Hey, Mary Will Like This... I suspect there are still quite a few of us with tapes, even though we rarely play them. One thing that makes me really happy though is that the technology is now such that you can connect your cassette deck to your laptop with nothing fancier than a plain old patch cord and digitize your tapes. Whether it makes sense to do this with your music is debatable, as there are almost certainly better versions out there but hey, this is the one you imprinted on. But I've got a boatload of interviews that SERIOUSLY need this, painful as it is to hear myself sounding like a fool all the time. Usually the person I'm talking to doesn't.

A year or two ago I decided that my collection of over 450 tapes was taking up closet space that I wanted back. I had since downloaded digital copies of most of those amazing shows so I knew I would be OK. Dark Star Orchestra was coming to play an outdoor venue in our town and I new they would host a large number of heads at their show. I gathered most of these tapes(I had to keep a few of the most killer masters for me) and toted them to the show I set up around my car the wall cases of tapes with a sign that said FREE, but please be kind to others. Most folks could simply not believe it and repeatedly asked, 'are you sure?'. Many traded stuff for them and I felt real good passing along to the younger heads -their first tapes. Fun, Fun, Fun

Meanwhile, if you're set up to copy CDs and DVDs, look into the Vineyard, which has an amazing range of stuff from all eras. You sign up, copy the disc when it arrives, and send it to the next person on the list.

Hi,I just ran across a large collection of unplayed second generation dead tapes. my neighbor just collects things. he is not a fan of the dead but copied someones tape collection and then put them away and never played them. 119 cassette tapes he say's he copied from a guy that new the deads soundman. I have no idea what he has. the first tape I checked out is labeled shrine 11-09-1967 and is an excellent recording, sounds like a soundboard (I don't hear the audience). after looking on the internet I am confused. the dead.net site says they never played on that date. the internet archive has 7 songs from the next day 11-10-67. the first song on one side (not labeled with side one or two) is "the other one" and is not the version listed as unknown source on the internet archive from 11-10-67. so I have no idea what he has, or how to go about even figuring it out. but they are all unplayed so I thought they might be of interest to the community. let me know if this might be of any interest to anyone. thanks, clint bush I don't visit forums often so if interested just email me directly TennesseeJed12345@att.net

Hi, I had a storage drive crash, and I lost all my "30 Days Of Dead" mp3s from 2012 back. If you have Dropbox that would be ideal. Though I'm pretty sure there's other ways to go about it, without further compression of the mp3s. Let me know what works for you. I do have tons of stuff to trade, and can easily upload things to dropbox, or send them another way.

Hi there, I am also looking to start building a collection of old tapes. My teenage son has recently taken an interest in my old tapes and vinyl (I am of course trying to encourage this interest) I only have 15 tapes in my current collection. I am not picky (beggers cant be choosers) I am looking for any year, any brand of tape (maxell, tdk), aud, sb, fob, any gen, etc. If any kind soul has any extras or duplicate tapes laying around that they would be willing to part with, please let me know. I am willing to pay for shipping & handling. I thought I'd ask here first rather than on eBay or CList. PM if you like Thanks, Mr Doots

Looking to get back into trading but I have none of my old tapes and virtually nothing on CD that isn't an authorized release. Willing to do blanks plus postage to anyone willing to set me up with anything they have. I am even willing to do extra blanks plus postage for your effort if that is ok. I am spoiled by the official releases so SBD and high quality is really what I am looking for. Once I have some shows I will share them with anyone who asks. I am partial to 1974, 77, 89, 90 - 94 but I would love anything anyone would be willing to burn for me. I have a stack of 100 CD-R's sitting here ready to send out just PLEASE let me know! Thanks!
