Lookin for a Terrapin with an orchestra
Several months ago we heard a version of Terrapin on the Grateful Dead Channel on Sirius Radio. It was with a full (awesome) orchestra and a choir. Can anyone tell me what we heard? It was really amazing! Would love to hear this again......... Sorry if I'm writing this in the wrong place, I can't post in a new forum............whats up with that? Thanks much~

    Bill Graham was a wonderful
Bill Graham was a wonderful and visionary man. I was lucky enough be a blue coat for a time. He was alway's very aware what you were seeing was real history. Not just an event being seen for the moment ,but a life changing historical situation that would only grow stronger with time. Hence his frustration at times with those that he felt didn't see it at the time. He also knew you had to get into the moment for it to become history and sink deep into your soul. He knew there was a balance. I remember him talking with us before a day on the green show featuring some rather hard rock bands - who shall remain nameless - about respecting that the people that come to see the show deserve the utmost respect, that they are here because of the music and one should not prejudge them, but be diligent about making sure it was a good enviornment for them to enjoy - the music. It was very powerful coming from him and something I have never forgotten. He was and is a great man in every sense of the word and shall be missed by all who knew him and many more that did not. pk

Here you go Marye,I knew Instantly what show you are talking about. It is the rant in between encores at FIllmore East 04-29-71 The crowd claps and chants MORE!... Bill Graham interrupts the crowd. "" Will you hold 1 second.. 1 second please. We don't know when were going to have the next opportunity for the people that work here. So for us to them we want to thank them. There is a question that I can't answer. Is there anyone really like the Grateful Dead? It's an amazing amazing group. I would like to give credit where credit is due. One of the ushers before I think wrapped it all up. You can use sentences and sentences. Someone was talking about music and this usher said, "The Grateful Deaad aren't just music, they are an environment!" which is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard! So if you want to...if you want....For 1 time if you want to applaud fine, but instead of yelling more and more. Why don't you try sometime, thinking the musicians are here and hanging out. Leave it up to them and don't be assholes all the time. Just let it hang. Leave it up to them. OKAY!.... more more more more. Just hang out!"" I had to listen to it a few times. I think I got all the words correct. enjoy! Let the music flow.... Deadtaper

Have you found the quote/rant you were seeking? I know I've got it, just have to dig it out. I'll try and find it this evening. It is one of my favorites. The Zen of Uncle Bobo. . .

somewhere on some tape, there is a classic Bill Graham moment in which he berates the howling-for-an-encore crowd about the fact that it is always about "Moooooorrre!" and never about "Thanks!" It has always been one of my favorite bits, to say nothing of words to live by, but I'm looking for the specific show and if possible the verbatim quote. I'm thinking East Coast, late '70s, but I'm guessing here. I got this tape when I only had a few, and now it's lost in the pile and I don't know which one it is. Many thanks!

I'm working on a project where I want to attempt to archive Grateful Dead bootleg lot shirts. I would like to create a print publication as well as a website celebrating the lot bootleg shirt. I would also like to document the stories and lore behind the shirts. I would love to hear any stories about anyone funding their tour by selling shirts, stories from shirt creators, any crazy Dead bootleg story (favorite shirt, shirts tha led to introductions, crazy adventures, etc... Feel free to send me any pictures, stories, ideas, suggestions, etc.. Thanks! Peace.

A long, long time ago, when we listened to tapes, a friend of mine had this great show from (I think) May 1978. Here is what (I think) I remember:
Terrapin > Sunrise > Estimated, which were mind-blowing. Probably Donna's best Sunrise; will bring you to tears.
I'm fairly sure that Terrapin went straight in to Sunrise. But I'm sure that Sunrise went straight in to Estimated. I don't think it was edited that way.
They were playing these tunes a lot at that time, but I've combed through the archives and just can't locate a show with this sequence; my memories may be at fault.

Thanks!

In Deadbase X, the lists for all 30 Sunrises:
5-12-77 Estimated>Sunrise>Terrapin
5-22-77 Good Lovin'>Sunrise>Estimated
1-11-78 Samson>Sunrise>Terrapin
4-11-78 Fire>Sunrise>Terrapin
That's all that have either an Estimated or a Terrapin on either side.
So maybe that 5-12-77?
Cheers

Hey 1st Show!

Thanks for the assist; May 22 1977 is the one. Listening to it right now. You know what's wrong with that show? NOTHING! ;-) Many of the tunes played that night are easily top picks for me.

Does anyone have contact information for the photographer who was shooting family portraits at Laguna Seca in 1988? Today my daughter, who was three years old at those shows, mentioned that the post-show scene at those gigs is one of her earliest memories. I’d love to get a print of the photo that was taken by that photographer. Thanks!
