Days Of Dead

"Casey Jones," "Sugar Magnolia"

"Casey Jones," from Workingman's Dead, and "Sugar Magnolia," from American Beauty, were two of the Dead's most popular songs. "Casey Jones" was a less frequent part of the repertoire after 1974, but "Sugar Magnolia" was the final song Bob Weir sang with the Grateful Dead, at the last show on 7/9/95

How to enter for today's try?

As for yesterday, I got tripped up by the Hall Vs. Auditorium trap...I went with DeadBase X's 'Hall'

So what, at least we got a HQ download :-) :-) :-)

That’s what makes this fun! Cleveland Public Hall houses Cleveland Public Auditorium and Cleveland Music Hall. The building is ancient and has a cool open grass area (Mall B Hanna Plaza) where I visited my 1st Shakedown Street in March 1981. The cool thing about it, the building still stands today, along with the grassy area.

Is this one of the rare times when the hint is actually a hint?

trying to guess which venue name is the correct one is why I come back every year.
today's hint actually helps narrow it down to a handful of shows.
have fun everyone!

The 30 Days, I’m never gonna miss that, got everything I need.

Oh come on! Dead.net itself says "Hall" (dead.net/show/august-26-1980). And Wikipedia tells us there is a music venue called Cleveland Public Hall inside the Cleveland Public Auditorium. I'm calling shenanigans on the dead.net crew for this one.

I double checked the archive just to be sure. When it's listed here as the public hall, its hard to understand how it comes up as the auditorium. I couldn't find ticket stubs as a final confirmation. I guess I'll find solace in the beautiful version and how much I enjoyed the entire show.

No need to be unkind, just say it politely-- some people are new and havent played before so they do not understand, help them out-- thats what deadheads do.

All about that lead guitar solo on CJ. Knew the year and pretty good idea of the period/months of said year. Couple tries in... bulls eye. They got nice and rowdy as the build of CJ went up and up. Love that watery wah like effect on SM lead gtr during this era.

Enjoy!!

This isn't the first, nor will it be the last venue conflict. As far a Cleveland, I live here, and the building's "official" name is Public Auditorium. However, most here call it Public Hall. Public Hall is actually the smaller venue inside. The configuration of the building has changed many times over the years, which was originally opened in the '20s or '30s. At various times, Public Hall was also call The Music Hall. With all these variations, it's no surprise that's there's name confusion.
There's been others such as this in past 30 DoD.
Another example is Dave's 48. Some say the 3rd CD is actually from the Kiel Opera House, not the Kiel Auditorium.

Hola everyone, so glad to have 30 Days back again! Now, where can I find the artwork for this edition of 30 days?

The artwork is right at the top of the page. Right-click on the image and choose "save image as" or "open image in new tab". You'll know you got it right when you see the file name: 23GFD_30DaysOfDead_23_A.jpg

Was it just me or did it cut off right in the middle of Jerry's riff at the end of Comes a Time? That is one of the most frustrating things for those of us with old tapes. If there is someone with a longer tape of this, I'd like to hear it

It wasn't exactly cut off. It's just where Dave decided to cut the selection he gave us yesterday. So it's not a problem from an old tape. You can hear more & what comes next via relisten, archive, setlists, & many other places.

BUT this song is also a repeat for 30 DoD. It was given to us with the two songs that follow CAT in the 2019 30 DoD, day 26. So if you have that, then you can already listen to it.

Well, he's no crooner. Interesting how he shifts from screams to that mellow phrasing at the end of Magnolias. Not too hard to track this one down - the period is pretty clear and the combo helps. If only we could keep the sync! Another find by David - a show that was new to me, and now more to explore. Enjoy the chase!

Having two songs always makes it easier. Wasn't hard to narrow it down to four possibilities. Then it's the fun part of listening. My "eagle" eye found it quickly.

Saw the Dead there in Oct 1972...was attending UB at the time and we drove to Cleveland. It was close to Halloween (maybe the 30th) but there doesn't seem to be any record of it...never could find a setlist although I remember they played just about all of American Beauty and one of the first long jam PITB to end the first set (which brought the crowd to their feet for the first time that night.
Any other old timers remember that show ? Maybe even were there?
Just always wondered why it fell into a black hole

I don't know if the date from "mcgannahan" posted recently is correct, but don't ruin it for everyone please. Some of us like to play the game. Err, never mind, now that I've listened to it do whatever you want.
