Until March 1977, "Scarlet Begonias" had always been a stand-alone song since its debut in March 1974, but from the moment "Fire On The Mountain" appeared on the scene, the two songs were joined together

It's all about recognizing the eras, then the eras within the aforementioned eras.
Last year I only knew two all month, this year I am five in a row & counting at day 8!
One can learn a lot from Dave's Picks.

Found it. Much faster than I'd've ever thought...or hoped.
Can't say much more than that right now.
Wowza....

Whew, there's a lot to hunt through here, even when I think I have the year right. But at least I'll have Scarlet -> Fire running through my head all day!

Nice work SMALLZ! as it did sync up perfectly. The first hint I "PICKED UP" on around 4 am eastern time. As I WOKE today so I immediately stopped listening and started my search. Just like that I was listening to a show I attended. FOUND IT! Then to listen to the complete show to bring back memories. You know this PLACE is getting HOT inside as much as it was outside 91 degrees that day. WOW JERRY TORE IT UP AT THE END LIKE HE WAS ON THAT MOUNTAIN.
To all here have a GOOD, GOOD MORNING!

Finally, one who paid attention. I hope you found it fast after all I said. Not to give it away but dang it sometimes Dave's HINTS are tough to follow. I myself finally have an organized system to quickly eliminate incorrect shows, so my total ESTIMATED time spent this morning was approximately 15 minutes and there it was. Now I can't wait for "Saturday" night I'm heading to see a great DEAD cover band here in FLORIDA. I'm sure you read into all that. Take care m-skjellyfetti.

Was anyone at the June 13,1980 Portland show, when the volcano went off right when they were playing Fire on the Mountain? We came out to ashes falling on us!
Ashes, ashes were all falling down.....We continued on with the tour as the equipment trucks did,to Seatle and Spokane, and then up to Alaska, for the summer solstice!!!!Awesome tour!!!!

Speed issues with sources could give you the spins. Not that I really need to sync, just double checking. This years theme seems to be "tried and true" or "to busy to fully engage."

I gotta pack two
One for me
One for my bad attitude

“Tried and true” indeed! And “too busy to fully engage” nails it, too.
As for packing that bag…I definitely need one for my bad attitude today.
And yet, nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.

Started way late in time and went back after hearing Fire and some how nailed it on the 3rd show I guessed after feeling overwhelmed by the choices...

A great Brent era version of this song as his Hammond B3 sounds great throughout it

Took a while, in part because the innernets cable provider ;) to my house was severed by a utility contractor installing fiber optics (oh the irony). Bobby the Cable Guy will be out to fix it soon.

I had to do this at work!

Yesterday's sample was my first show. 50 years ago. My recollection may be cloudy, but it seemed like from start to finish, including the break, the show ran more than 5 hours. The first set is basically what ended up being a full show, in term of number of tunes, toward the end. It was their first visit to Indiana since a 1969 show at Purdue. There was supposed to be a 1970 show in Bloomington, but that was canceled. Would not return to Indy for 3 more years, then finally got to IU in October 1977, their only visit to IU. I may have seen Bobby Knight hanging with Bill Walton at that show, sharing something. That may have been a dream though.

I thought I knew it right off the bat but when I played it, it didn't sound "just exactly perfect" so I moved on. After about an hour and a half in the weeds I went back to listen to the 30 Days version and I had one of those flashes: I'd been there before, Been there before. I circled back to my first pick and it was gold Jerry, Gold!

This contest is humbling. I thought I knew a ton. I am at a loss for words. Wish my older brother and sister took me to the OKC zoo shows when I was 9. I would be a lot better of late 70's early eighties identification. Im toast until some late 80's stuff hits the que. Congrats to everyone that got this one. Think this one is 1980 but I cant find the show. Damn!

We've been doing this since day one. I won once about six or seven years ago, and now she gets one.

To be fair, we don't need rewards for this. We've been enjoying the ride the whole time.

Not that we would turn down the grand prize.

I don't know why that took me so long. I knew the era, I knew the sound, but I went down several rabbit holes before I got it right. Ironically it was not Truckinup2buffalos's hint that helped me find my way, but it certainly helped.

Sorry but Mt St Helen’s erupted over a month before that show and there was no ash falling from the sky during Fire on the Mountain.

In the thick of the evening, I figured I might as well give this one a try.
Once in a while, you get shown the light with the strangest lyrics if you listen to them right. Well, I ain't always right, but so far these 30 Days I've never been wrong.
It might take all you got just to find the the right beat for this one.
It could be an illusion, but we are already through 8 Days.
Oh oh what I want to know, where does the time go?
Good luck all!

Which as it turns out was a bellyflop. Floundered around in the deep end before finding a life ring. It was quite a workout, but a rewarding one.

First note on this one. My favorite Fire of all time. It was my 9th show, and I had the tape soon after. I used to bring it to work at the amusement park I worked at and played it at my game in. I even made a ringtone with the final Fire jam over a decade ago and still have it. I've always thought this Scarlet Fire has never gotten the acclaim it deserves.

This one appeared in the inaugural 30 DOD in 2011!
Love Brent's harmonies and love searching for the sound!

...was 2010. Not 2011.

And btw, probably TMI. Kinda gives away the answer to folks who want to find it themselves.
No worries though. Just a gentle reminder.
