From the Dead's second tour of 1976, they ended their first set on 10/2/76 with the new arrangement of "Let It Grow" (without its 1973-1974 parts WRS Prelude and Part 1), along with the new Garcia solo track from his Reflections album, "Might As Well"

    last minute

nothing like putting your guess in with ten minutes left. used to get to play right as the song was released and stay up all night searching if i had to. or just got lost in the archives. This year i finally get to searching with about an hour left if i get to play at all. makes for a much different game. at least today was an easy toss. a real bang

    This Venue – A head-scratcher

Another tidbit. Since finding the date for this show was such an easy trip for most, check out your 30 DoD records for this date and you’ll see that we rec’d other beautiful selections from this very show in two different 30 DoD years. Same show, same date, obviously in the “same” location. BUT the 1st was labeled with one venue name, and the 2nd with the other one. Both officially from the Vault. I remember it was a complete head-scratcher!

And now?! Well, there are some bits of info out there that might lead in one direction, or the other. But who knows?!! So might as well, Step right up, Take your pick!

Doing some dead research here. We'll see what tomorrow brings.... :-) :-) :-)

Started this a few years back, would only get a few right. Now I know some tricks, and can enter with confidence. I can double-click on pause with the big boys now. Today was almost too easy.

Great sequence and along with the Stranger > Bertha this year's second repeat already!!

I would be interested to see daily counts of entries, both correct and incorrect. We see people who comment, but don't know how many heads are actually involved.

I also would love to know how many play and those numbers. Hit show again for sure but the usual tricks and no longer trusting the archive listing, going with the other archive recordings for the site. I must say this version is substantially cleaner than anything I could find.

best Might As Well I've heard....

also was just discussing those Spectrum shows the other day w/ a friend. Had a few hotel rooms, bathtubs filled w/ ice and beer, and even brought a home stereo (Harmon Kardon receiver and Infinity speakers) to blast by the pool on the afternoon between shows...

Wow I wish I've known your friend because that Philly show sure was hot. 91 degrees that afternoon and walking around all day in the heat didn't exactly go over well for a few of my friends. The pool would have been nice! Of course, jamming to sound from a Harman Kardon system with Infinity speakers at the pool must have been COOL.

Something new today DAVE made it EASY... Not like the ONE yesterday but I really wonder how the CROWD handled the BIG BANG? Was it a SHOT from the STREETS or it MIGHT As WELL been a cannonball from a river BOAT. With all this energy from the Band tearing it up I'm sure it kept every ONE DanCin'

Nice to know there's more than one source for this. I see that most lists and sources say the venue is a "xxx" but was actually at this time referred to as a "xxxx." Has since been called a "xxx" but now yet something else.

I'm not complaining because I don't really have the time for heavy-duty searches this year anyway, but they've definitely lobbed us some softballs so far this year. I just hope this one isn't one of those venue debates.

Hey, if Dave keeps lobbing us softballs, I'll be right there to catch them. This one is prime choice! Interesting that this ending combo was unusual but not unique; even the short "drums" in the middle of Grow was done before (but not the "stop on a dime" onset as in this version). Lovin' that soloing on Let it Grow, and the fine sound quality. Another show that I should'a listened all the way through in prior years. Gotta thank Dave for steering us to this overlooked gem!

As for the venue name debates, is it possible that BOTH are scored as correct and entered into the daily contest? Maybe we are twisting ourselves into a knot for nothing.

Pretty sure I got the show correct but I can’t find this source. Hmmm

I've been listening to every show from this tour for the last month and a half so it's very familiar to me and you gotta love those Betty Boards!

As Woodro69 commented below about 'unreleased', the statement on the 30 DOD home page "That's 30 days of unreleased Grateful Dead tracks from the vault", may need to be revisited if the answer for today's selection IS what many of us believe to be the correct answer. Not complainin, just sayin..
'a whoops'!

I've gotten a mite rusty on my 30DOD skills but its coming back to me now. Thankfully today's was quite easy and I got it on the first try!

to the sound wizards on this one. Great versions of both tunes, especially on account of the nice vocals. I also like the brief drums interlude. Very unique.

Makes me wonder if this show may be in the offing for a future Dave's Picks release??? Think I'll finish listening to this show from front to end and coast to coast. Might As Well.

One last thing: Once you've figured out the correct date choice, a little more deep digging will take you to a page which contains a very interesting professional(tongue in cheek), pop music critic's take on this show. Hilariously biased!

Could be this or that, I wonder if they are both considered right answers, you would think it would be the .Net Archive listing but that’s not always the case…same as wackaloo found it be known a little more known as one over the other. Cha cha cha

This is a pretty clean board of a show that doesn't appear to exist in this form in the usual places. Did someone find a new box of tapes and does that bode well for future Dave's releases?

After searching local sources for the info, it appears that the "Official" name of the venue is pretty clear. And there is a memorial plaque right outside that states the name. Hopefully, that's the one they chose today.

several posts not allowed now suddenly, can't figure what's causing the problem, as some posts are okay. weird.

I went with the name on Deadlists and the Archive.
Regardless, two fine tracks.

What shall we say, shall we call it The 30 Days?
Rock and roll wailing in these two old tunes.
No great hurry on this one as it should be pretty wide and clear.
Listen to the thunder shout out of Jerry & Donna's voice as they declare "You Might as Well, Might as Well." And the Deadheads on the earth take it in.
One long party from front to end coming up for me at DSO in WI on Friday night.
One good ride from start to end, I'm looking forward to taking that ride again.
(hoping this makes 9 for 9)

A very under appreciated song, often forgotten by many. I don't think there is another song I dance this hard to. I don't slow down or stop the whole time. Nothing feels better.
