Days Of Dead

"Row Jimmy," "Picasso Moon>Don't Ease Me In"

"Don't Ease Me In" was around from the very beginning, with a few breaks in its first dozen years (1967-1969, 1971, 1975-1978), but after 1979, it was a stead member of the repertoire; "Picasso Moon" was late-era Weir rocker that debuted in 1989; and "Row Jimmy" was around from 1973 to 1995 and was always great to see appear in a first set

    ">"??

Why does this get a ">"? Seems odd. Clear break between P Moon and Don't Ease. I'm geeking out!!! Nonetheless, thanks again for doing this. Good stuff!

Simple work of that. A four-night run at this location. Catching the Third and Fourth nights wasn't bad. I'd like to have put the 1st set from night one with the 2nd set from night three. Though the third night was the best of the two I attended... the best of all four! Short story no need to hint around today.

Another curve ball? But I do believe the name “flew higher” in this particular year. I went to shows 1 and 4 on this tour. At the day 1 show, my58th Grateful Dead show, everything was green. Fun times!

If TC joined full time November 68, why didn't I hear him during the Dark Star? That had me messed up. I'm just bad at this...

Should be only Dark Star > St. Stephen. All the archive recording timings are wrong for St. Stephen and The Eleven because the William Tell Bridge of St. Stephen is indicated as The Eleven. Just as they begin transition to The Eleven, someone calls "fade out" and they stop. The comments on deadlists fill in more details.

yes you are 100% right about the eleven.
deadbase does not list eleven as played
selection should have been
dark star-saint stephen extended-eleven jam.
william tell bridge is part of saint stephen according to robert hunter and
2 minutes into eleven they stop for several minutes with equipment problem.
deadbase set list does not mention eleven nor do some others.
archive notes eleven stopped after intro jam
setlist.com and other sites that mention the eleven have it at 7+ minutes but if you listen the jam stops 2 minutes in.
just information i found during yesterdays search.

According to my searching, there were 70 shows to start with. But this clearly was unique due to the length of The Eleven.

The Dark Star lined up pretty spot-on with the Dark Star Graph. Deadlists noted it as The Eleven 3 49 with a note. Setlists noted it as The Eleven Jam.

Really didn't leave me with any other options.

Anyone who can't get this shouldn't be playing. I was at the last show of this run and they played a very unique jam.

When I finish listening to today's selection and the rest of the show, I will go back and listen to yesterday's again. It is just so so sweet.

THE SETLIST PROGRAM (Google it) is much more helpful than DEADBASE, especially, if like me, you’re using a 28 year old hard copy (people used to call that a BOOK). After going through “every”
DS-> STEPHEN-> 11 played from 1968-70 twice I was getting nowhere, with the only real clue being the long pause In STEPHEN prior to the “lady fingers” section that was prevalent in 1968. The ELEVEN was so short- was it considered only a JAM, but being an instrumental, how can you tell?
Anyway, the SETLIST PROGRAM had an ELEVEN JAM listed for that show, and I didn’t even listen- just went with it. If only the Jets could’ve also gotten a miracle.

Just a couple of things about hints while I’m rambling. Some are helpful, but most aren’t- just use what you’ve got. Yesterday we got a two minute ELEVEN, or ELEVEN JAM- whatever- and that was what your search should have been all about. People talking about synching and such works real well sometimes, but look for the obvious clues. People clearly found the “TEN miles skiddin’” in the HE’S GONE- but then it was hinted at by just too many people. And today, clearly a gift, but the hint about it being part of a 4-night run? Come on- hints are to add to the fun, not to just give it away.

Well, time for my coffee…

i also found a star stephen eleven jam on 2-11-69 but could not find a recording for it….even googled my book while looking…lol
such fun this is = never had such a good time

that today's choice will not be difficult to find for us astute listeners?? Either way it's most certainly not going to be difficult on the ears. Thanks for easin' us in on this Monday morning Dave!

Hey there JS! I’m guessing you might be a newcomer to 30 DoD(?), so I’m hoping here’s a little help from a friend.

1st off, do not post guesses/answers here in “Comments” section because doing so will NOT enter you in the contest. And 2nd, it’s just not done, cuz it gives away the answer to others who want to find it themselves! And the fun is in the search!

The ONLY way to enter your guess is to Go to the the main 30 DoD page—the one with the 30 DoD artwork on top. Below the artwork, it should show the song title for that day, e.g., “Row Jimmy….”. Scroll DOWN below the Comments to find the entry option. There’s a drop down menu for "Show," and a drop down menu for "Show Date." AND then be sure to click “Submit My Entry” after you make your choices. After you successfully make your entry, it will say “THANKS FOR ENTERING TODAY!”

The fun of this wild treasure hunt is to sleuth out your best guess. Sometimes Commenters leave some pretty fun, clever, veiled hints as to what the answer might be. And that’s part of the fun! But never post your guesses here in the Comments.
Have fun!

Picasso Moon may well be my least favorite Dead song but I like the rest of the sandwich!

Thankfully the spoiler didn't succeed in spoiling anything because this one was so easy anyway (as long as you avoid punctuation traps!).

In years past, the contest entry forms were below the song player and above the comments. This year, they put the entry forms below the comments. I think that is why you get people putting their guesses in the comments. I hope they return the entry forms to their previous position.

Agreed! All good now, but the entry placement this year has been confusing. I, too, think that that's why folks don't know where to post their entry, especially newcomers. You gotta poke around more than usual.
And yep, I also think it'd be better to return the entry form to its previous position just under the song name. Crazy fingers crossed!

If there’s any consistency with Days 1 & 9, he got the venue name wrong. More great fun(gi) shows!

Was there not a better time to boogie on over to the concessions stand than during the first chords of this first set closer?

I noticed an absence of Phil on the entire track of day 13. Maybe it my ears but Phil is non-existent. Maybe the mix is way off. Any thoughts anyone?
