Days Of Dead

"U.S. Blues"
Hint:
Usually an encore, this song was very different in its first year, later coming back in its proper form

Chicago, IL, Auditorium Theatre
"U.S. Blues" debuted, sort of, in 1973 as "Wave That Flag." It soon disappeared from the repertoire, returning in February 1974 as "U.S. Blues," where it would be a standout track on that year's Mars Hotel

    Clues, not hints....

I was on the wrong side of the "hiatus" for the start of my search, though Keiths's keys and Jerry's refusal to "light the fuse" lyrically help substantially.
I knew it wasn't late `70s Keith and Donna era.

    Hints/not hints

ONLY when i am coming up on the midnight hour and i've got no answer...i MAYBE will look at all your all's comments, otherwise i'm super duper cold turkey and I WILL FIND MY OWN WAY to the answer! Because i don't need, nor want the help in this research project, and actually, left my dead base in ORE and hear in the grate lakes i've relied on my ears which is refreshing and wow man, when it syncs it sinks. Peace&love, NFA

Jerry's in good voice. Keith's animated. Two drummers. I say Spring '76. Besides sounds like a Betty B.

Then one of my favorite Jerryisms. Many have known this show a long time, since tapes. A classic. FM Broadcast, too, I think.

I recognized that and right away knew that I'd heard it before, just didn't know where (but found it in 10 minutes after a little digging). Either they're getting easier or weir getting better, I don't know lol

A certain Row Jimmy earlier in the show has to be the GOAT (at least from this year anyway).

Raking leaves and and getting busy in the kitchen today after I listen to some more of this show.

Peace, y'all

Hey all, I've learned a few tricks (mostly from y'all) about ways to delineate line-ups, but I get lost when I hit a Keith-Donna era that doesn't have Donna's voice. Can anyone give me insight on what Keith does that separates him to your ears? I can get Brent and even Vince, but Keith vs. anyone else is tough. Enjoying the game this year, hope everyone else is, lots of great music. Thanks.

upright PIANO sometimes a Hammond organ but most of all tuned into the acoustic GRAND piano along with using a wah-wah pedal. FENDER RHODES electric PIANO and a Yamaha grand electric piano.... MOSTLEY THE PIANO. If that helps you. You'll eventually hear the difference. I hope that helps you as we are all here to help one another!

Laidback sweet show. GRATEFUL run here and it Looooks as if they had been on to something during this time period. Very "HUMID" that day (inside and out) but our LAST mission is to hear the many voices in sync as they were that night. Note to "PHIL"..... I'm sure we all "HEARD" you!

Seriously! Keep it to yourself brother. This is a competition. We are NOT here to help each other in that way! No one wants the answer given to them. It's much sweeter when you earn it.

easier than I thought it was gonna be. Went by the timing and had the show on my computer. But how many versions of the same board tape do we need on the archive. Incredibly thankful for the resource just wish for some editing of redundancy.

After however many years playing this (I've lost track), I finally got one on the first try (or at least one that wasn't a complete softball lob). And you know it right away if ya got it.

Lots of choices, but some distinctive traits helped narrow and guide the search. I still had to listen to probably 20 versions of U.S. Blues before I struck gold, but I like the song!

@gnosticaspirant & Adam Deadfast..... I see that it might have been too much. Tho at times you read post's that help each of us. I'll agree I went too far today. I'm a peaceful man and do hereby apologize to you two and all others that might be upset with the hints in an earlier post. Sorry All!

is it a coliseum, an auditorium, an arena, or a theatre.
or some of the above, or all of the above ?
I’m on a mission from god.
“Red and white, u s blues, that’s how it goes right?

My OCD also requires formatting them the same but it easy to do first row and paint the rules you want down the first 30lines.
I follow my own morning ritual which has me hearing the choice twice while I do my bookkeeping and deciding my line of attack.
Woohoo keep em coming Dave my confusions prince.
Give us a…..
Constanten weird sound
Pigpen rapping alligator
Brent singing to his kids
Vince and Hornsby together
A smoking 1991 spring tour show
A 1974 wall of sound
A 1981 Olympiahalle medley
We can do this together a long time before we run out
2060 50th anniversary 30 days of dead
HAPPY AND HEALTHY HOLIDAY TO ALL HUMANS
ENJOY AND PEACE

It is true that some of the hints have been a little too specific, and I try to ignore them. Today, however, I admit relying on the one referencing a GOAT earlier in the show… but, damn, it’s the day before the Fest of Food and I got lots to do…
And sorry if you’re not “boys,” but just channeling one of my favorite musicians… love to all🦃

I saw that too, but funny enough, this one doesn't show up on the typical best of lists, so that'll steer one wrong, even for this year. I suppose it's in the top 20 though.

I gave up on the hints - wish people would hold off and not prejudice others' explorations. (And I still don't get some of them anyway). Like geododge, the ending was the key for me. And was that feedback from the gods at the very end??

Personally, I don't mind some hints. It's helps with playing the game and in some sense it doesn't matter anyway. I've been playing this since it's inception and most years I get most questions right and I haven't once one the daily, so I've come to the conclusion, what difference does it make.

I do love this so much. My favorite time of year! but I have a major case of "30 days OCD". It takes some work to get it to all look right. What I want to know is what's up with the "all caps", block lettering of the title on the page. It's normal on the current day page, but as soon it goes to the past days, it's all block again. I can manage, but why is it deliberately done in a way that makes things harder to cut and past and look good. I don't mind suffering for my passion, but why not make it all look the same? And what's with the quotation marks? I mean really? I realize that's proper grammar, but we're not writing sentences. I'm entering data into a database. Just curious why no one steps back and makes it all look consistent. love you guys though. thanks so much for the tasty tuneskis.

Just enjoying the game. Started my hunt and then had to run to work. I got back home and spent a little time to find it.

Time for making the homemade pumpkin pie and getting ready for tomorrow.

I never read the comments until I have submitted my answer for the day unless I am stumped. And then I check out what people are saying. Most times I get the help
I need through the creative nudges that people leave and find the answer. And on occasion I will add my own breadcrumbs for others who are stuggling.

Hey 90s.man, count the number of points in the lightning bolt in the cover art for this year. That’ll get your OCD going.

Far out! So there are 13 points on the lightening bolt for 13 years? Now I've been going through past years covers counting mushrooms and ribs and funny creatures and leaves and roses and I can't find anything that works like this year. I spent an hour so far looking and counting.

for the record I love the hints-it shows how clever and fun deadheads are. this is not a competition - the journey is the prize and its no fun playing in a vacuum. You can always ignore them and read them after it if it bothers you. As for me - I say keep the hints coming!

Though I rarely read them ahead of search, I really enjoy looking back! If I did pick up on some of the hints, It Would sometimes head me in a diffent place from where I would logically go. Still fun to see all the comments from the people i've enjoyed with for a very many years.

I noticed the jerryism right away but tracking it down was harder.
this isn't the only time in this particular year same line same jerryism.
I saw a few shows this year which was a good one both in terms of the band and venues played
thanks for digging this up Dave!
