Days Of Dead

"Dire Wolf, Casey Jones"
Hint:
A couple of Grateful Dead songs that were in and out of the repertoire for about 25 years, played here more than six months before the studio album they'd both appear on

Both "Dire Wolf" and "Casey Jones" debuted in June 1969, and marked a significant transition from the primal, Live/Dead era Grateful Dead. The two songs would become huge parts of the repertoire before being recorded for the June 1970 Workingman's Dead album

Thanks a ton for the fun Dave and everyone else. I don’t read the comments daily and never (if I can) before finding the show but do enjoy the stories and clever musings. I do miss any deliberate highlighting of Pig; but I think it is more about here is something from this date, let me turn you on to the rest of the show. So…Xmas everyday for 30 days. Please enjoy the two shows highlighting a true character and showman with the nuggets from the 12th and today.

    Doesn't Really Matter

The Hint makes it simple, Relisten verifys, and Deadcast gives a great background! Sad to see so few days left!

Pig speaks!

Great stepping back in time. Some trippy chatter here, with screams and howls and Psycho Killers.

Jer: "this song is dedicated to the Zodiac cat"
Pig: "to the paranoids of the world"
Jer: "and to paranoid fantasies everywhere"
Pig: "that's right"

this is probably all the Pigpen we're gonna get, sadly.
I don't say this about many Dead songs, but I prefer the shorter, more concise versions of Dire Wolf :)
but this here is fun. feels like we're sitting right there on stage with them.

Once you find the answer, you need to listen to the 8th song.

@ronmarley1 - Should probably give #2 a go, too.

Re: second song…. You got that right! I went back and listened to the “whole” show. Like someone said, it’s like you’re right on stage with them.

Very nice DAVE, @ronmarley1 it's a BEAST like a PIG on a TIN SANDWICH!

was a June show in 69. It's not the answer to this. I'm not giving anything away. However setlists dot net lists it as a show at the Fillmore East, but the archive site has a Pacific High studio session for Aoxomoxoa. A fun suprise.

The difference in ambiance is interesting. Perfectly synced up on iPhone in hotel room.

I think today was the deep dive, D-Rae, the day that Dave enlightens us as well as entertains us.
Regular search sources were quite unnecessary today- just google JERRY GARCIA THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO THE ZODIAC CAT, scroll down to the stealie on the left, and hit enter or tap the screen. Quite the discussion of the DIRE WOLF will ensue and all questions, real or imagined, will be answered- and a most stellar time will be had by all!

Thanks for the tip. I was not hip to the Deadcasts, but I read the one you mentioned on Dire Wolf and now I will have to burn several hours listening to many more!

i see many comments that say first try or second try.
that seems rather pointless considering the amount of choices to try. i agree todays selection was our confusion prince leading us to the ole rabbit hole to explore.
i found the story about jerry hunter and mountain girl and how dire wolf was written to be wonderful.
yes it was like being on the stage or sitting with them in the living room
never a dull november…EVER.
THANKS AGAIN DAVE

Jeff4682: Today was definitely a dive deep in to the vault. But what I meant was that we're due for a real Dave stumper. One that is NOT out there on any of the internet sources, but maybe was played six months ago on a jam of the week. The Cream Puff War from 2013 (and again in 2014) or the EAC jam from 2014 that we had to do extensive research and then just take a stab at the answer. So far this year has been pretty easy, at least of me.
