The Festy Experience
This festival may not technically fit the category because for one its in the fall and second this is the first ever so I can't recommend it based on past experience. This is a festival scheduled for Oct. 9 & 10, the Saturday and Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. It is being held on the grounds of a small microbrewery in Nelson County, VA. I hear its very near Wintergreen Resort. This is a very beautiful area in the Blue Ridge mountains. The festival headliners are the Infamous Stringdusters. Others on the bill are Railroad Earth, the Tony Rice Unit, Toubab Krewe, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge (Larry has done some touring with Keller Williams) and Old School Freight Train, an excellent progressive bluegrass band from the Charlottesville, VA area. David Grisman has produced one of their CDs and I think they have toured with him. There are numerous other bands as well. I bought my tickets today and they were a very reasonable $54 for a 2 day pass with camping. I think that increases to $64 in about a week. Still a quite reasonable price! I'm looking forward to this one as I know the area is beautiful, they're featuring beers from several very good microbreweries in central VA and they have some excellent bands! Guess it could be a disappointment, but I doubt it! If you want more info I think the website is thefesty.com.
Cropredy Festival 2011 ~ Fellow Travelers?
I thought I would post here and see what happens... I haven't been to this festival since the 90s but it still ranks up there as one of my favorites. Just haven't been able to get back there yet. Anyone interested in traveling to England in August 2011? If so, find me... ~Andie (ChromeDivaStyle@aol.com)

Grateful Garcia Gathering 2011
Grateful Garcia Gathering 2011 will be held on Aug 4th - Aug 7th at Camp NCN (formerly Jamboree Campground) in Black River Falls Wisconsin. The Grateful Garcia Gathering is now in its 8th year! Friends and fans come from all around to dance and see to some of the best jambands in the midwest honoring and paying tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band/Grateful Dead's guitarist Jerry Garcia. It also marks the celebration of Jerry Garcia's 69th Birthday, plus its the 16th Anniversary of Jerry Garcia's untimely passing. But its also a time when many fans pay tribute to remember other Grateful Dead members like Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Keith Godchaux, Brent Mydland, and Vince Welnick. We have leased the campground venue for August 4th though August 7th, 2011 for our 8th annual 3G's festival. Our confirmed headliners, THE SCHWAG/DEAD AHEAD w/ MELVIN SEALS of the "Jerry Garcia Band" on the Hammond B-3 organ, for two nights on August 5th & 6th! Melvin Seals is best known for his long friendship and musical partnership with cultural icon and guitarist Jerry Garcia and the smile of his that lights up the room. Harmony Festival
over the past weekend up in Sonoma County was apparently pretty good--anybody go? I'd love to hear some reports of the Jerry-Bear late night tribute!
Just got back from Bonnaroo.
Just got back from Bonnaroo. I have been lucky enough to make 9 of the first 10 (couldn't stomach 2 nights of WSP in 2005) and hands down, this is the fest of all fests. My Morning Jacket's friday night set simply obliterated the rest of what was an amazing weekend of music. Saw Buffalo Springfield Saturday night and wow, they brought it. A relevant tour and set- very nice!

festival season is really kicking in...
Oregon Country Fair happening this weekend; All Good next weekend, Gathering of the Vibes the next weekend, and that's just scratching the surface. If you're in Pennsylvania this weekend there's a Jester Fest for the Rex Foundation...
Summer of Love Party
Looking forward to the UK Summer Love Party next weekend. It promises to be a good one. See you there.
Terrapin Hill
Terrapin Hill Harvest Festival is by far my fav! Very laid back and family friendly. It has been going on for so many years that the surrounding area is very welcoming and friendly. The energy is pure and addictive. They have a smaller one in June called Family Reunion. It is a lot smaller with mostly local bands. Also worth catching!
Spreading Love and Light One Person at a Time
I would like to express my dissapointment in the fact that mssrs
weir, greene, & robinson, have allowed their respective management agencies to perform at the wakarusa festival in franklin county, as you may be aware, this festival does not use properly licensed festival, and should you sustain an injury here, or be the victim of a violent crime on the event campus, said security concern will NOT render aid or attempt to arrest the perpetrator(s) even if they directly witness said crime.-I was not the only person violently attacked at this event, and there were numerous reports of suppression of reporting of violences at the 2010 edition as well (source; st bernards crew volunteers).
mr weir, as a longtime fan and sublicensee who has attended literally 1000s of your shows, and mssrs greene & robinson, (whom I have also attended scores of performances by, nationwide). in light of -in particular- mr weirs decision to perform at a benefit for a sn francisco giants fan who was severely injured at a los angeles dodgers game (and reportedly, not assisted by that organisations security personnel), I respectfully request that you have your management team rethink this decision to perform at this decidely unsafe event.
if you or your team have any questions for me, regarding what i (and others)feel is not safe for your fans I can be reached via the following email vendingmachine@hotmail.com or (720) 838-6564.
thank you.
ps-it did not escape mine (and others) that your management team had the presence of mine to schedule last years furthur festival the same weekend as this event, (in what appeared to be a rather strong 'hint', to your fans, that they were 'safer' at an actual grateful dead event, than the poor excuse for a venue that mulberry mountain/wakarusa operates (semi-illegally, no less)*
* i will also be happy to share with you the letter I received in the US mail from an attorney in lawrence, ks, threatening to sue me for 'libel', for publishing the fact that the wakarusa festival does not use licensed security as per AR law
oh, and for the record,
one of the people involved in the crime at the wakarusa festival has posted on this site,(this very BBS), wakarusa.com, (a now closed)youtube & jambase using the nickname "ooplik". if you ever feel like assisting in identifying that individual for said attempted murder, feel free to do so.--repeated requests that wakarusa provide info from its in house BBS that may help identify the perpetrator hiding behind that particular nickname, to the relevant jurisdiction have been met with outright refusal.

Ojai!
My favorite summer music festival in recent years has been the Ojai festival in southern California. They really do some interesting stuff. This year there are intimate sunrise concerts on beautiful Ojai hillsides and late night concerts of John Cage music. Also, matinee and evening concerts on saturday and sunday. Highly recommended!
10,000 Lakes
FYI, 10,000 Lakes has been shuttered since 2009, unless you know something I don't which is quite likely after all.
