Toward the end of July I started re watching the Grateful Dead videos on YT. My usage increased daily until last night When I stared watching right after work and didn't stop until 1AM. I also took a tour and caught up on the other members and their bands. Today it occurred to me that there might be a reason for this. Aug. 1, 1942. Duh. I wonder if there are going to be any memorial events in the TwinCities, MN area on Aug 9? I guess this feeling never goes away. Thanks Jerry.

Rest in Peace. You deserve nothing less for the joy your music and vibes gave to the world. While you may have left us physically, only a fool would think that your spirit is no longer with us and living within us. Peace

I had just gotten home from work when I got a phone call. I completely thought it was a joke. But my friend told me to turn on the TV and sure enough it was sadly true. It was just like losing a family member or other loved one, because I truly loved this guy, ya know? I made it down to the beach (OB, SD, CA) where there was a great gathering of mourners. It was surreal.

I was at this show when the boys trotted out La Bamba for the very first time... a pretty good mix, in my humble opinion. AND this post has nothing to do with the current Call the tune, Round 14!! something I've wondered, Could Garcia speak Spanish? peace.

I also asked this on the DNC board, and some folks said yes he could and others said he couldn't... anyways, he was really cute singing La Bamba! arriba y arriba!!

Does anybody know why Jerry moved from playing on the right side of the stage to the left? The switch appears to have happened in the late 70s.

I've heard a rumor:Jerry wanted to be on the same side of the stage like Ace Freehly of KISS. Garcia was a huge KISS fan in the late 70's, often seen backstage at KISS shows. in fact, Jerry taought Ace how to play, if you listen carefully6, you will notice similarities in their lead styles. Ace used to bust his balls, saying he was on the Gene side. hope this helps. peace.

it was so he could be closer to the buffet, hahahahaha! "If the forms of this world die, which is more real, the me that dies or the me that's infinite? Can I trust my habitual mind, or do I need to learn to look beneath those things?"

I think it was to hang with Brent. Brent rekindled the fire in the band, and it is well known that Jerry liked playing with new people. You could always see him light up when a guest player was on stage.

If you can find a copy of Norfolk 1982, Bobby makes an announcement on stage about the the position changes. I think it's before Peggy-O. I had the tape many moons ago. Maybe it was the quality of the recording, but most of his statement was incoherent. So I have no idea what he said. The last time I remember listening to Norfolk 1982 was in the year 1982. So I could be totally wrong about this. lol.

Can't remember the year. ..I know that's shocking but it seems like late 70's maybe a show in Providence...Jerry was set up in the middle...I liked the left and the right sides but he did get into jammin' with Brent.

The sadest part about being a 22 year old deadhead is that I'll never have the opportunity to see Jerry play :( ~littlebri

Age doesn't mean a fucking thing. I saw Jerry once and my wife saw him about thirty times. It all comes down to personal taste. I personally don't like anal folk who shit on younger fans, but thats just me. marye makes a good and unevitable point, we all move on from life. All of the folks who experienced the Grateful Dead will eventually be replaced with people who havn't. Who the fuck cares? Enjoying the music? Well turn it up then!

littlebri Get all the DvD's you can afford, especially the reissued Grateful Dead Movie, and Winterland. In the reissued Grateful Dead movie, the last disk with the extra cuts is heaven on earth. Play that on a nice big screen, with great sound, turn down the lights, and you will see Jerry live. I must of seen hundreds of shows; very fortunate indeed. It wasn't the first show, but the second, where I the dead were forever etched in my heart & soul. It was a show in the week at the Fillmore in April of 1971, when TC was a guest, and opened the 2nd set with Morning Dew. That entire show is beyond words and remains my favortie to this day, although there are quite a few close to it. Jerry, Pigpen, Keith, Brent, Jimi, Duane, Janis and to all the rainbow warriors who have moved on to become...... you are missed. Forever young -Easywind

Thanks Easywind, but I have already done that. One of the greatest things about being a younger deadhead is that I am still learning and discovering the Grateful Dead, and yes, I agree that there are many more of us younger ones than vets (especially out here on the west coast of BC). I do wish I could have seen Janis and all the others, but Jerry is the one musician that I appreciate the most out of all of them, so I will just continue to experience all the music the best way I know how.~littlebri

Live Dead = The SGEurope 72 = The Strat Without a Net = Tiger Fender preamp. Love the simple stuff. Love the live stuff. Like the envelope follower. After "Built to Last" the Guitar technology became an explosion of digitally enhanced infinite possibilities. Jerry was a kid in a candy store.
