I'd love to see anything from 87' to Brents last show as it was arguably the GD's peak era. Plus there is vid available in excellent quality! Shoreline surely!!! All those feeds that were on the house screens must be workable! Lotsa love! J Are you kind?

The bevy of high quality summer 89/90. Was an apex for the band, and the video/audio is top level quality, so why not dare I ask?And whatever is left of Winterland Closing 74 (if anything) And the reels of Festival Express Trip. And whatever else of high quality is available. Not picky, would just like "many and often"!!!! “The Omnipotent Grateful Dead!”

well, the top of my list would be more stuff from the 70's. the complete 4/17/72 would be amazing. herouville '71 could be made into a nice release. 8/27/72. stuff like that. but... since it is more likely that rhino has access to 80's/90's video, i'll second 7/7/89 as a great example of later day dead. this era is already well represented in video but 89/90 was just a really strong period for the band. keep it coming.

    A few thoughts on DVD's
First off, I own every officially released DVD and lots more that our intrepid friends have produced personally. I have been desperately waiting for a new DVD ever since the re-release of Dead Ahead. I know there is some killer stuff available, because I have a fair amount of it in un-official release. Some ones that quickly jump to mind are the Summer Solstice show with Clarence Clemons and the Germany '81 show. I would really like to see Deer Creek '93 third night (dark star > the wheel) and 5-6-90 (just a killer show). Merriweather Post '85 would be a really stellar pick as 6-30 may be one of the best shows ever. In general, I would appreciate it if some wide angle shots were incorporated into the videos. I know that most of the vids are taken from the screen caps at the venues, which are all close ups, but I experienced the dead most from a distance, with the full light show. The videos that are available, even most of the un-official ones, are all close up shots. Candice did such a brilliant job and her work is almost entirely missing from the video releases. This is a shame, and frankly, leaves me longing for more when I sit down and watch the videos. Just a bit of venting. Frankly, I would be really happy if you would just release some more videos, is one every 6 months too much to ask? - a very happy deadhead

...I note in passing that I have no knowledge of any actual extant film or plans to do anything with it, and that watching the film again leads to a lively appreciation of the veritable morass of rights issues probably involved. Bigger than a drive-in movie, oowee. Anything I'm saying is from pure wishful thinking. That said, though, holy moly. And thank God for freeze frame.

Since I think there was a fairly diligent search at the time the movie was being made, and this is all they came up with. So they may just be irretrievably gone. But (knowing nothing of Canadian TV), I do wonder if there isn't some logical venue to broadcast the word that people are looking for this stuff and willing to pay. And probably not ask too many searching questions about provenance. I expect there may be some murky rights issues, and on the other hand some of them may be moot after 35 years. The cameramans kids used them as goal-posts. Too big to be pucks. (Up here you can by hockey-pucks anywhere!) Concerning the missing reels, I wonder who would one entreat to produce these?

More Festival Express for sure would be very cool. Of all the musicians, not just GD, seems that everyone was in very high spirits. I want to party with these folks some more. I'd love to see a fat bounty offered for the missing Festival Express reels, because the movie, fabulous as it is, is made from about a third, tops, of what was originally shot. Including, evidently, the reels the camera guy's kids used for hockey pucks. It would sure be swell to see the rest of it, "children of Calgary" and all...

Just watched a DVD about the closing of The Fillmore West and Bill Graham's business style. In addition to an incredible two songs by The GD... Santana, Jefferson Airplane and other "groups" were showcased. July 2nd,1971 is the date of The Grateful Dead's performace... it's obvious that this whole show was filmed, complete with close up's of Jerry and Bob and split screens of the crowd and twirling girls... Rhino probably doesn't have the rigbts to this footage... but it is so good, they should try to get it whoever owns it should release it themselves..

As I stumbled out of the Oregon Country Fair on Sunday, wondering where we left the car, I asked if they filmed the 1982 show there? Also curious to know where the stage was for these shows, if anyone remembers.Would make a lovely box set-Sunshine Daydream 72 and the 10th anniversary show in 82. Just sayin........

I recently went to my local HMV and bought a bootleg DVD of this show. It cost 10 bucks and only has 7 or 8 songs on it. Other entities are making money on this by somehow getting "reputable" music stores to sell copies. So yeah... It needs to be an official release.

Not the best performance of the available 90's video screens but awesome energy because of good old mother nature.

Already seen it at meet up at the movies last year. Throw in the Music Never stopped (and the rest of the end of the 1st set cut off from Downhill on 7/17/89 as a bonus). You guys already have the footage. It sounds great. A very good show. Not on the level of SSDD, but almost nothing is.

This would be an awesome release... The soundboard isn't in circulation, at least I could never find it! The show is an absolute monster too... Playin' -> Crazy Fingers to open the first set and an incredible up-tempo Friend of The Devil to start the second set.

Please, you put it on the big screen for us. We all went to the "Dead night at the Movies". That show is complete, just waiting to be purchased and mailed to us. We need to see Jerry again, grinning at Brent and the whole band roaring that night. What are you waiting for? Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.

I know this isn't really the right forum for this but w/ the ad-hoc bands that played it's hard to find the "Right Site". What an incredible show! I didn't see a ton of shows (~20 from '73-'87), and all in the northern plains and midwest. Some were great, all but 1 were very good. This show at Red Rocks was the best. Please publish it! DVD would work. Just the music would be fine with me.

The show was filmed by ORTF (the former French national TV agency), and the original should be in the ORTF archives in the Institut National de l'Audiovisuel. Get a copy, clean it up, sync it with the SBD that was also made that night, and profit (spiritually and financially).

So little has been released from 1985 - can we have the So Far sessions released in total on video, and if you want to include all of the '85 NYE with Ken Kesey and Bill Walton and Guido Sarducci talking about USS Merrimac and Wagner himself, that'd be okay as well!

I would love to see a DVD release of the Woodstock performance. The version of Dark Star is really quite beautiful - I was listening to it and watching it on You Tube and my cat became fascinated by it and came and sat on the keyboard so as to get close to the screen. I played it many times, but now it has been removed for copyright reasons. I would love to have access to the video footage as well as the music, once again!!!

Hey, hows about we quit laming around and start releasing Summer 89' video box sets. Start with complete Alpine and go from there. Mixes need not be flat. Gets get some energy. There is such a thing as over mastering.

I am in the Boston area with an extra ticket to the movie today if someone wants it. I am going to the fenway theater. 617 686 9653

I second that emotion. Alpine '89 has to be the center. But I think a MeetUp at the Movies type box would be fantastic, similar to the All The Years Combine DVD box.

Out:
2011: GD Movie (no need)
2013: Sunshine Daydream (no need)
2018: Crimson, White, & Indigo (7/7/89, Philly)
2019: Giants Stadium Box (7/17/91)

In:
2012: 7/18/89 Alpine
2014: 4/12/72 Beat Club, Bremen, West Germany
2015: 7/19/89 Alpine
2016: 7/2/89 Sullivan Stadium
2017: 7/12/89 RFK, DC
2022: 4/17/72: Tivoli, Copenhagen (Danish TV)
2023: 6/22/91, Soldier Field, Chicago
Plus: 7/17/89 Alpine (Downhill Omits the last 2 of the first set, and this is the centerpiece of the release)

That's 8 shows. 6 complete. Add some of the others back in if you want more.
