The year 2010 saw the long-awaited release of a second volume of live recordings by the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band. The shows took place in 1987, and the first disc, Almost Acoustic, was released in 1988. Multi-instrumentalist Sandy Rothman put together a second collection, titled Ragged But Right, at Jerry's suggestion, but for a variety of reasons it wasn't released until the end of 2010. It's a shame Sandy, and the rest of us, had to wait so long for this marvelous set of tunes played by friends who started making music together in the early 1960s.

Rothman ain't talking, but bandmate David Nelson was happy to meet with my colleague Rich Mahan in Arizona to talk about the history of this musical friendship.

(And Rich Mahan is now known as the co-producer/cohost of , a priceless resource for fans of this music!)
