Hey Now Dave! Congrats on the new series. Great choice to begin with! Can't go wrong with the run of shows from Spring 1977. But just one request: please don't go the route of making the music you select 'unavailable' on archive.org. I'm concerned at the increase commercialization of music that was, in large part, preserved by deadheads who recorded and who circulated and shared tapes. (Everyone of us has a carton of analog cassette tapes somewhere in our homes.) It's great to make the archives available in a fancy package, remastered, etc., etc. But the ethos of the Dead scene has always been about freedom of spirit, and a decidedly non-commercial approach to the music. Thanks for keeping the legacy of Dick L alive and strong!

It was a fantastic time for the band and, if the rest of the music has the same quality, it's going to be a fantastic ride for us. Congrats to Dave and everyone involved in the production. Glad I'm on the bus and a subscriber.

Great stuff Dave thanks for all the well trained ears that are putting RT and the Dave's Picks out for the masses a lot of us are very happy to have such a quality product. Funny, I've seen a few posts already arguing that the early May '77 shows were better than this release. The fact is, all of 1977 is nothing short of amazing!! It may be the band's best and most consistent year. Spring of '77 gets so much of the attention, probably due to the availability of so many crisp recordings. Personally, I always thought the best kept secret of '77 is the fact that the Fall shows are actually better than the Spring shows :-) Sit back and enjoy.

Very Familiar, So I looked in my CD cabinet and sure enough there it was, Dick's Picks Vol. 3, Three days earlier at Pembroke Pines a very similar sounding Estimated. Hey, who am I to complain. I am guessing these Estimated s may contain some of the best Jerry Jams EVER... Same goes with the Cassidy's. It's almost comical to hear Bobby and the others trying to bring Jerry back to earth as whisked away in musical ponderousness to the transcendental lyrics Bobby had just supplied. Well I got my tickets for the Furthur's spring tour. Can't wait! If I was not smart enough to rip The New Europe CD's to my PC they would certainly be in need of restoration themselves. GD merchandising sure is throwing a lot our way and in most cases I would be upset. I guess it tries to offer a little bit to everyone and they know they're gonna take a hit on a Heads generosity. So I will make my purchase as to have yet another beautiful version of a beautiful moment in History. I found this puppy in my old tape box. OMG. The things they could do with technology. It took me a half hour in the attic to find the tape and a cassette player to listen on. I only Have the first set. I am sure the 2nd is somewhere in that pile of many... Anyway, let's all remember. The fact that we still get to hear live versions of these songs just shy of a half century is a spiritual blessing surly sent to us from the Other One who has left. Let his spirit be felt as we tour on in his memory. JK is not a replacement, he is an extension. No arguments. Music is the only place I have come to find truth and real freedom. I agree. And i think Dave does too- '77 was the pinnacle- the 2nd set of the Ithaca show is like a great American symphony. I have great recordings of Boston, New Haven, Buffalo, Ithaca, Winterland (6-7), San Bernadino (2-26), as well as the Dick's Picks of '77. Many were recorded from the stream at archives.org and were from the lost Bettyboards. They are fine but i still wish Dave had access to the original recordings and could perfect them.

The '77 Richmond show at The Mosque holds a special place in the hearts of many central Virginia Deadheads. Many of us were home from college for the summer and the idea that the band was playing in the cozy 2,500 seat opera house instead of the cavernous (and sound challenged) 10,500 seat Richmond Coliseum was indeed special. Perfect spring evening, hundreds in Monroe Park before the show (well behaved) and the band delivered an outstanding show.Great memories! Thanks Dave, keep up the good work! Vinny in Los Osos

I was on the live show bus for about 16 years starting in '76. Spring of '77 was indeed some of the best live playing I witnessed by the band....I was up front-about 15th row- with my tape deck, for the New Haven show, which became a Dick's Pick release. Just beautiful playing, Jerry was at his melodic, and rockin', best that night. I saw 4 or 5 others from that Tour, all pretty great shows.

I meant the New Haven show from 5-7-77 which Dave says they don't have. He said they would release the New Haven, Ithaca, and Buffalo shows a set if they had them .The 5-7 is preferred to 5-8 by some and is a great show to have. Also the boston Garden show that week. As good as it gets.

Also this is a show for which there has long been a high quality audience tape in circulation, but not a good board (if I recall, I have had a tape of this show since, well, soon after it took place!). Second pick is also very strong, so, happy, happy, happy, looks like Dave's cue is straight in line!

I have to say, Man, Dave, what a gig here huh? Wow, get to go to heaven every time you have a listen! what a Job!!! Well, yeah i know this is where the fun is baby, and your work is sounding very Good.. This Band deserves ALL the Goodness... and i am very Happy with your work, i'm hearing the Whole thing, so Beautiful. Thank You. Speaking as someone who has built several large collections and catalogs over the years, I think it's ok for people who that are doing the archival work, the people who restore and conserve this music, to reap some financial compensation. Further, I believe the taping community, may benefit by beginning in earnest, their own restoration work, if they like. There are several good audio restoration methods, both analog and digital, that could enhance their collections. Thus, enhance their ability to trade higher quality music. Are there any dates that there are no known recordings of?

David played a few tracks from this new collection on Sirius this morning and it was sick. It was one of the coolest "other ones" I've ever heard and it was only the first half of the song. He also said the Scarlet > Fire is an all time great. Can't wait to get my first shipment in the mail!

Congratulations to Dave and his team for a great job- this has got to be the best sounding Cd I have ever heard- I know that Dick's Picks were all in HDCD format but none sounded like this. Is it that my new Marantz CD player can decode the format and my old one could not?? I have been listening to this music on vintage JBL Century 100 speakers since 1975 and it never sounded so fine! That, combined with the excellence of this show from the band's finest hour, makes this a great first volume. And, as usual, at a fair price. Thanks so much.

Yes, Definitely ,your new Marantz Disc player could be the reason the HDCD sounds so much better, I have 2 CD players , one decodes HDCD, the Other One does not, plus the one with HDCD is a much better quality, so Chances are , Your Marantz could be the Difference. It is a great brand, ENJOY!
