The longer I listen to Dead Symphony No. 6, the more I love it! Movement II (St. Stephen) is particularly killer. But the whole disc moves me.Movement VII (To Lay me down) and Movement X (Bird Song)... hard to choose a fave! If you haven't yet, check out the samples at www.deadsymphony.com. Beautiful stuff!!

Never heard of it 'til now. released as a CD in 2006. used copies out there. you can stream it on apple music. that's my plan.

I bought this when it came out. Sadly I lent it to someone. Wonderful beautiful interpretation of the GD by the Russian National Symphony.

1stShow - you're probably already familiar with this and I've pointed to this before in last couple years. Bonnie Prince Billy did a fantastic cover of If I Had The World To Give on the Day of The Dead musical tribute project, 5 cd set from 2016. I pretty much love it all - a great release. At the time of the release he also performed it live on the Saturday Sessions on CBS This Morning Saturday. There is excellent video of this performance on u tube uploaded by Alexander Petzold. Just watched it first time in awhile - omg - stunningly beautiful.

what struck me right away yesterday when I pulled up the Dead Symphony #6 were some of the songs it was composed around. Blues for Allah?! World To Give?! Mountains Of The Moon?! etc.

Seems like WTG was made for an orchestral arrangement. It has a classic sound that could have been from the '30s-'50s from Gershwin, Lerner & Loewe, or Rodgers & Hammerstein. Maybe that's why it just didn't last with the Dead. A little too traditional? But I was sure impressed with it when I 1st heard it. I thought it could have been a good slow song segue like Standing On The Moon or others. And those August '78 Red Rocks shows had that just exactly perfectly slow studio sound to them anyway so it really fit the moment. The exact opposite of the raucous July '78 Red Rocks shows. I sure got a full dose of everything Dead in my 1st 4 shows, lol.
