Anybody interested in a "Valentine's Day Dead" vine?
I know we're well past February - but I always had this tape, labeled "Valentine's Day Dead" - 2-14-70 that I always loved - And I also have 2-14-68 & 2-15-68, which are not uncommon - so I wasn't sure if anyone would actually be interested in a vine like this - or if one was already circulating - but given the propensity of alot of folks to sign-up and then abscond, I'm thinking the more seeds we plant, the more might grow. You absconders ... You know who you are - and we know who you are - and we'd welcome you back if you'd only forward on what you've received to the next in line. Oh well - here's what I'm thinking of - maybe it's already out there - but I will offer it up, if there's any interest - and we'll keep an eye on past absconders who sign up for new vines while killing old ones - you know who you are - Absconder! Anyway - If we do this vine, it has to be called "Valentine's Day Dead" - and I'll put it on a DVD (flac and shn content) - the people on the vine can decide if they need to convert to audio discs - because it's like 8 audio discs vs. 1 dvd, so I'm fine with putting it out - but the first person who signs up needs to be able to handle a DATA DVD & convert Flac & SHN down to WAV (I'll double check before sending) Grateful Dead - February 14, 1968 Carousel Ballroom - San Francisco, CA Recording Info: SBD -> (8 Track) Master Reel -> Dat -> CD -> FLAC Transfer Info: FLAC -> Samplitude Professional v10.02 -> FLAC (2 Discs Audio / 2 Discs FLAC) Transferred and Remastered By Charlie Miller Alligator Jam Patch Info: 5:43 - 5:59 Patched with 1st Gen FM Reel 5:59 - 6:55 Patched with Anthem Of The Sun Set 1: d1t01 - Morning Dew d1t02 - Good Morning Little Schoolgirl d1t03 - Dark Star -> d1t04 - China Cat Sunflower -> d1t05 - The Eleven -> d1t06 - Turn On Your Lovelight Set 2: d1t07 - Stage Announcements d1t08 - That's It For The Other One -> d1t09 - New Potato Caboose -> d1t10 - Born Cross-Eyed -> d1t11 - Spanish Jam d2t01 - Alligator -> d2t02 - Drums -> d2t03 - Alligator -> d2t04 - Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) -> d2t05 - Feedback Encore: d2t06 - In The Midnight Hour d2t07 - Stage/Radio Announcements --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grateful Dead The Electric Factory Philadelphia, PA 02/15/69 Source: SBD>MR>Cassette>DAT>CD>EAC>SHN Disc 1: 1) //Doin' That Rag 2) Cryptical Envelpoment > 3) Drums > 4) The Other One > 5) Cryptical Envelopment Reprise 6) The Morning Dew > 7) Turn On Your Lovelight Disc 2 1) Tunning 2) Dupree's Diamond Blues 3) Mountains Of The Moon > 4) Dark Star > 5) Saint Stephen > 6) The Eleven// > 7) //Death Don't Have No Mercy 8) Cosmic Charlie Disc 3 1) Alligator > 2) Drums > 3) Alligator Jam > 4) Caution > 5) Feedback > 6) Goodnight --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grateful Dead 2-14-70 Fillmore East, New York, NY mostly: SBD>MR>D>CD>EAC>SHN with portions from: SBD>MR>PCM>D>CD>EAC>SHN Disc 1 (75:43) Early Show: (missing Cold Rain & Snow) 1. stage banter (0:15) 2. WARNING: this vine looks like it is going to be too large for me in good conscience to beg someone to convert to WAV (i.e., de-FLAC), BUT I will be pestering multiple people to trade with me for these shows (couple shows per person).

You want to post the definitive contents of this vine again (the back-and-forth has me a little confused)? That way we can start the topic with accurate info. Thanks!

It's really quite simple to decode either the flac or the shn compressed versions of the music circulating: it does save on mailing cost(s). Check bt.etree.org for the items to use in expanding the compressed files. You can browse the table of contents and download many of the shows we're sending by mail!!! I also pull tunes off of lossless legs > www.shnflac.netand www.tapecity.org If you have a DAT recorder, inputting data streams from archive.org or Sirius is possible, feed the recording into a software program such as Cool Edit Pro for conversion. I think archive still allows downloading of audience recordings. As a purist, I don't monkey around w mp3's at all. Gr8ful

If you're starting a vine for Euro circulation, just go ahead and post about it in the Vines Across the Waters topic, which for now is the venue for those vines. We may eventually have to implement a similar structure to the North American One Topic Per Vine system, but for now the volume of Euro (and other continents') vines is manageable as is. Thanks and vine on!

The first one will be more fall '73. I have nice copies of a few shows (12/8, 12/12, 12/18 and I believe 9/11) and Richard has hooked me up with 9/26. Someone requested October '73 but the couple shows I received from "that guy" from that month just aren't up to snuff sound quality wise. I refuse to put less than stellar discs into circulation, especially when A SBDs are known to exist. I want to keep this vine a little smaller, maybe 3 shows, with 9/26 being one of them. Does anyone have an opinion as to which other 2 shows they'd like (choices above)? The other vine will be either a May 77 or Fall 77 revisited vine. I have nice copies of 5/28 (this show is a MUST have), 10/6 and 10/28. I need someone to help me out here. If we go with May, I'd like to include 5/4 and 5/17 (both shows I have, with the former being less than stellar sound quality wise and the latter having gaps). Anyone want to contribute A SBDs of these shows? If we go with the Fall, I'd like to include either 10/12, 10/15, 11/4 or 11/6. I have 11/4 but with gaps and some sound problems, at least at the beginning. Anyone want to contribute one or more of these shows? Opinions welcome.

Looks like one of our vines may become redundant soon. Someone on Eurotraders noticed this on the Spin CD website in the UK Grateful Dead - ' 'Winterland 1973: The Complete Recordings' (9 CD) We've just seen this as a UK release on a Rhino schedule for May 5th. More news when we have it.

I'll believe it when I see it. If you google "winterland," "1973," "rhino" and "grateful dead" or some combination thereof, you find some interesting postings, many going back to the spring of 2006 when someone found a backdoor into dead.net and supposedly saw something about a soon to be released Winterland '73 box set. Someone copied what they "found" and it looks just like the Fillmore West 1969 box set. It all could be a hoax.

hold off till we see what's what WRT the copyright issues. Mr. Pid informs me that iclips has a very draconian anti-copy policy, and whatever my opinion of same, we don't want to run afoul of it. I would HOPE that something intelligent involving downloads/DVDs/CDs generally available is going to emerge, but I have nothing but my own hope to go on in the matter. Now, somebody wants to start vining a nice audience recording, I'll be the first to sign up.

while I am, yes, fairly cranky about the way in which this whole matter has been handled, which has served to create barriers at every turn, I think the official position has to be that anything derived from iclips is the fruit of the poison tree from the legal standpoint and I can't put us all, and Rhino, publicly at risk by setting up a vine for this. Am I happy about this? No, I am not, particularly as in essence I don't have access to this show myself until it's officially out, because Webcast video is simply unbearable on my system. However, in mod terms, my path is regrettably clear on this. I am so sorry. (And, in response to the many sweet people who will probably send me PMs offering me DVDs, thank you, but no, I cannot.) Let's explore that audience tape scenario. Thanks, folks.

I feel like my digital collection is now a bit short on the 1974.When I used to trade actual tapes, I remember having so many great shows-6/18, 10/18, 19, 6/28, 2/24, 8/6...and on and on. I would love to have some of those in my digi collection. Anyone feel like starting a best of 74 vine??

The October Winterland shows have already been vined. 6/28 and 8/6 are on Dick's Picks, at least partially. How about the other 2 Feb Winterland shows, 2/22 and 2/23, as well as 5/25 Santa Barbara and 9/20 Paris?
